Restaurant review: Chicken House in Dallas

Before Chicken House, before Brothers, there was Henderson Chicken. And there still is, up on Abrams at Royal. (Yes, I know there is also a location on Grand near Fair Park, but this one is closer--and that means hotter chicken when you get it home).

Anti-Dallas Convention Center hotel crowd promoting false "facts"

What in the world does this mean?

Temporary support columns were removed from the Wyly Theater structure Wednesday

This theatre is as radical for its time as the Frank Lloyd Wright Theatre (the Kalita Humphreys) was 50 years ago. Let's just hope that this new one is more user friendly and easier to maintain than Mr. Wright's masterpiece.

Asian Mint to open second branch on Oak Lawn in Dallas, called The Mint

I have noticed more than a couple of HP'ers at Brothers on Gaston, but they usually slither through the drive-thru rather than walk up to the counter.

Heinz to shut down Dallas factory, unemploy 200

Shouldn't that be George Bush's pic on the Heinz bottle, rather than John Kerry's? After all, George Bush, who got himself re-elected President in 2004, is responsible for the economic mess that this country now faces, ketchup (catsup?) and all.

McKinney approves funding for Dr Pepper StarCenter

McKinney says no to an arts center, but yes to hockey. McKinney refuses to participate in funding a Collin County arts facility (which Frisco, Allen, and Plano have all approved and agreed to fund), but McKinney thinks yet another hockey rink would be just dandy. I guess we know what their priorities are.

Church's Chicken despoiling the name Texas with fried chicken in the U.K.

Historical note: Church's Fried Chicken began in San Antonio during the 1950's. So, it has a legitimate claim to being "Texas Chicken" (although I MUCH preferred Leslie's, Church's was certainly a much tastier alternative to that damned Kentucky colonel who pressure-cooked his chicken).

Some unexpected places closed on Easter Sunday in Dallas

"If you hate America and capitalism, you can take your fascist attitudes elsewhere and impose communist control over their daily lives." Pavel Lishin, describing you as narcissistic does not make me fascist, or communist. In fact, I believe that your incendiary response proves my point.

Some unexpected places closed on Easter Sunday in Dallas

I can't remember the last time I saw such a gathering of narcissistic children. "I" can't do this when and where I want to; "they" won't let me have what I want when I want it; "I" don't care about anybody else but me!!! Grow up, get a life.

Dallas ISD's Arts Magnet to return to Arts District April 21

Congratulations to the students, faculty, and administrators at Booker T., as well as all the private sector folks who raised the additional money and made this happen. And to those whiny parents who complained when they were inconvenienced by the temporary move, I look forward to seeing your good wishes and apologies for trying to mess up the redevelopment process for your own selfish desires. Oh, never mind, I am sure that you have moved on, by now.

UPDATED x 2: Historic Hard Rock Cafe building in Dallas gets the axe

Oh, yeah. I can just see Angela Hunt and the entire McKinney Avenue business, residential, and cultural constituency supporting a homeless shelter at the Hard Rock. NIMBY.

Dallas apartment complex to residents: Merry Christmas and get out

Folks, this is not transit-oriented redevelopment, and this is not Lake Highlands anything. It is located at Skillman and Northwest Highway, miles from any DART line, and you can expect more big-box retailers. Score: cars 1, trees 0.

Kansas City group lobbying for daily train service to Dallas

I hope that the Northern Flyer Alliance does a better job with train-planning than it does with fact-checking. It talks about extending the current Oklahoma City-Dallas route to Kansas City. Folks, there ain't no train between Oklahoma City-Dallas. There is one, however, between Oklahoma City-Fort Worth, the Heartland Flyer. I'm sure the folks in Cowtown will not be pleased to learn that Dallas has hijacked their train.

Live Oak Street exit on US-75 Southbound closed till 2009 due to DART Green Line construction

Instead of closing the left lane of Central back up at the Haskell/Lemmon exit, why not move it closer to the Woodall Rodgers exit where a large chunk of Central traffic exits, and avoid this long bottleneck that the present lane closure causes?

    The TRE rocks the house

Now imagine that same experience on a high-speed train to Austin, or Houston--better than a wider highway? better than a Southwest Airlines cattle car?

Easter Sunday. 1 o'clock. Pooch Parade. Best Dressed Dogs in Dallas (and that's saying something).
