In-N-Out in Dallas-Fort Worth: Is the honeymoon over?
While I find myself eating there a couple times a month, I am always surprised at the inconsistency from visit to visit. The Midway/635 location seems to serve fries that are about an inch long practically requiring a spoon to eat them. Depending on location, sometimes the fries are overcooked, sometimes soggy. The waiting time is also inconsistent. Regardless if you are a fan or not, what made McDonald's successful was their ability to produce a consistent and predictable product from any location. In-N-Out definitely has not mastered that aspect of a fast food operation...at least not in DFW. The other take away is that the employees are not nearly as gung-ho as when they launched Dallas. After waiting 10 minutes for a burger and with only one other person in the place, I asked the counter employee if it was normal for it to take 10 minutes to get a burger. She looked at me and responded "no" and walked away.

Two lobsters ride in cabin on inaugural flight on JetBlue from Boston to DFW
Maybe they should have sent 2,500 snails instead to highlight JetBlue's new esCargo station at DFW.

McDonald's to ban cruel gestation crates for pigs.
This is a great step for McDonald's to take. They are the company that most directly affected the mass production of livestock and in effect created "the monster". This step combined with their recent video campaigns highlighting quality ingredients from the farm is a good sign that McDonald's recognizes that the sentiment of many Americans now demands responsible agricultural practices.

Agreed - we sure don't want them, but they do look tasty. A half pound shrimp?

UPDATED: Liberty Burger in North Dallas opened on Monday
I had the napa burger which was original and very good. I also had a carmel and sea salt shake that was again...original and very good! Glad this place opened in the neighborhood.

Review: The verdict on In-N-Out Burger's fries
The lousy fries keep me from frequenting In-N-Out burger as much as I probably would. I don't know how they get them crunchy on the outside (even though they look undercooked) but the center of the fries taste frozen.

Ditto Eliot and Sarah! We have been recycling these items for years! Will we hear next that they are accepting glass and plastic?

5 chain restaurant meals that will make you get off your high horse
When I moved here decades ago we would go to Chili's and have the Chili's "Trip" burger (cheese burger with chili and grilled onions) with Coors Light and big basket of chips. While the Trip is not on the menu anymore, they still are aware of it and will make you one if you order it.

MesoMaya officially opened in North Dallas August 16
Ate there a few days ago - nice decor, good service and food was unique and tasty. I appreciated that our server asked if we had and feedback or suggestions for them after dining there. I thought that was a nice thing to ask.

More In-N-Outs open this week: Coit & LBJ, and Fort Worth
Disappointing visit to the Coit and LBJ location today. Line wasn't long, but as only my second visit (first was Caruth) the food was not nearly as good as first visit. My burger had so much iceberg lettuce on it that it was like eating a mouthful of water. The fries were not good either. They were very hot and crunchy on the outside, almost as if a little burned, but the inside had a dry grainy texture as if they were frozen and then cooked too fast. Yuck! New location problems??

Movie theater re-report: iPic Theaters in Fairview
My wife and I happened to watch Horrible Bosses last night in the Premium Plus seats and thoroughly enjoyed it. Seats were very comfortable and food was great. We were sitting on an aisle, so the servers never were in our line of view obstructing watching the movie. We hung out in the bar area and were impressed with the wine list.

UPDATEDx3: In-N-Out Burger opens in Dallas with a lot less fanfare than the suburbs
I had what was my first In-N-Out burger just a bit ago. It was a tasty burger! Nice toasted bun, decent tomato for a fast food place and the burger patty still had a slight red tint to the center. FF's were decent also. I appreciated less salt on both the burger and fries than typical. My bottom line: Pretty darn good for a fast food place, but I don't see the impact of their entry into Dallas as negatively impacting Whataburger that has its own following and distinct taste. I think it will impact McDonalds, Wendy's and Burger King by offering a differentiated burger. You don't read many (any?) comments from defenders of those places the way you do Whataburger.

Pegasus News' Ultimate Best 2011 winners announced
Probably worth pointing out that the nominees for this "Best of" were winners from various other media companies "Best of" contests. The results aren't neccesarily the voters number one choice unless they wrote in an alternative - they had to vote from the winners from the other lists. Some of my favorites were not represented here because they had not won on any other Best of contest...so I wrote a few in.

East Texan Miranda Lambert serves venison cutlets from a deer she shot at her wedding reception with husband Blake Shelton.
OK...so I am clearly not a reporter! My understanding is as they were walking into the reception a nice buck crossed Miranda's path and she instinctively pulled out her sidearm and delivered a killing shot. She gutted and processed the deer in front of the guests with no help from Blake. She personally grilled and served the cutlets.
