Colby Walton's review for:
Si Tapas and Spanish Cuisine
Just visited this place for the first time, and found the quality of the food, the service, the atmosphere and the sangria all wonderful. Maybe not the same as being in Spain itself, but a close enough experience, for Dallas. All of the food we sampled was well executed, including a sampling of meats (jamon serrano, lomo and one other I'm forgetting), a cheese plate (manchego, idiazabal, cabrales and one other), fried boquerones, boquerones in oil, fried morcilla, mixed croquettes and pintxo moruno. Love the way they've transformed the former Watel's cottage. The bar up front and the back patio are both great hang-out spaces that I'd be happy to visit again and again. Next time, I'd branch out to try more menu offerings and to sample the varied, well priced wine list.

El Taco H
Tried this Grapevine strip center taqueria for the first time tonight, after seeing it mentioned in a comment on the DMN Eats blog, and found it to be a good value... with the tasty tacos, classic guacamole, and no-frills decor meeting all of my basic taqueria needs. Both the barbacoa and tacos al pastor ($1.25 apiece) were eminently satisfying, and the condiment bar offered a good (and wonderfully spicy) selection of salsas and toppings. I'll be heading back soon to try the tortas, burritos, and more selections from the taco menu.

Main Street Chop & Fish House
Ate here Saturday night as part of Restaurant Week, so take this review with the requisite grain of salt. Overall, though, our foursome was extremely pleased with the quality of the food, the scope of the wine list, and the service. Chateaubriand, not a normal part of the dinner menu, was nicely charred on the outside and medium-rare and tender in the middle, and our friend who ordered as her entree the macadamia-crusted tilapia topped with orange-ginger beurre blanc was in ecstasy. The only jarring moment came when someone started playing with the track lighting system, with various lights throughout the restaurant going up and down over a period of 5-10 minutes. They finally settled on a "blindingly glaring" setting for the lights over our table, even though the lighting seemed perfectly ample earlier in the evening. Strange. All of the appetizers - beef crostinis, lump crabcakes, salads and broccoli soup - were well-executed, and the desserts also triumphed (particularly the key lime pie). On the wine list, you can get something more expensive, but the 2007 (Yamhill, Oregon) A to Z Pinot Noir represents good value, at $42/bottle. If you're looking for fine (but not overly pretentious) dining in a relatively small (13-table) restaurant in NE Tarrant, this is a solid choice.

Cowtown Sushi
Took the wife here recently, for the second time, and had another generally enjoyable experience. Not the greatest sushi we've ever had, but the quality is certainly high and they do offer a number of fairly inventive rolls, suiting a variety of tastes, including several signature rolls with an extra-spicy kick. Among the sashimi that we found to be excellent were salmon and cajun tuna. The combination tempura dish (shrimp and vegetables) was very delicately battered and nicely prepared, for a crispy but not-too-heavy crunch. The spider roll, a staple we always order from any sushi joint, could have used more soft-shell crab, but otherwise was satisfying. The vibe is the biggest flaw. Besides the restaurant's location in a strip center, the ambience isn't helped by the large-screen TV over the bar showing non-stop sports (though some might not mind), and I also find the flashing, multi-colored lights displayed underneath the sashimi serving dish a bit odd. Is this purposeful or accidental kitsch? Hard to say. Service was efficient but unremarkable, and the price seemed reasonable given the quality of the fish. Next time we'll branch out to try more of the cooked fare, so we can offer better insights.

Edohana Hibachi And Sushi
Can't say I expected much from a sushi restaurant with multiple locations in the area (does that by definition make it a "chain"?), but the freshness and quality of the sashimi and nigiri have been top-notch on our three visits so far to the Grapevine location. Sashimi portions are also quite generous and reasonably priced. A number of inventive rolls are offered, in addition to the usual standbys, but I've found them mostly too heavy on the sauce, too lacking in distinctive flavors and not up to the standard of the sushi. There's not much atmosphere to speak of, but if you're just in it for for the food, this is a pretty solid NE Tarrant option. Haven't yet tried the hibachi or desserts, so I can't offer any insights in these areas.

Cafe Italia
Went back again, this time to the new, larger location, and had another fantastic meal. Highly recommend the veal jerusalem, which was an ample portion of veal perfectly cooked and accompanied by artichokes, mushrooms and garlic, all in a wonderfully decadent sherry cream sauce. The only issue was an extremely long wait between the salad and entree courses, as the kitchen seemed to have fallen behind. I expect these issues would be resolved as the kitchen adjusts to the larger space and typical weekend night dinner rush.

Feedstore BBQ
A quick update. I tried the blackberry cobbler recently, and found it the superior of the three cobblers sampled so far at the Feedstore (the other two I've tried were peach and pecan). The blackberry cobbler was, in a word, perfect. I'll definitely be going back for more!

Palomino European Bistro
service was a little slow and inattentive, but the food was solid... Including the sole saltimbocca and New York steak, plus the outstanding blue cheese and hazelnut salad. Tonight's dessert was a peach cobbler ... Very nice, although a little less crusty than I prefer.

Steak 'n Shake
Tasty burgers and shakes, although the skinny fries were cold and soggy. Napkins were scarce and the lettuce was a little wilted and brown.

Yutaka Sushi Bistro
Our favorite sushi place in Dallas. Sashimi is generously cut and wonderful in quality, and the specials are typically inventive and worth branching out from the menu. Definitely intimate, so be prepared to wait... But it's worth it. The Kobe beef tataki is a solid starter, and the skewered baby octopus is also very tasty. Hamachi kama is divine and worth the effort to get at the meat.

highly recommend the chicken salad with homemade basil vinaigrette... Or the shrimp and mozzarella quesadillas. This is one of the office's favorite lunch spots. Their Sunday brunch is also outstanding.

Sorry, forgot to submit ratings with my comment. Saliva must have backed up to my brain when I started thinking about fried chicken....

Mi Cocina
On a par with the other Mi Cocinas (Highland Park Village, Las Colinas) we've been to. Tasty margaritas, a great salad (the Rico salad), and the usual assortment of Tex-Mex favorites. Always seems to be busy, but the service doesn't suffer.

Silver Fox Steakhouse
Outstanding appetizers (crabcakes, shrimp) and steaks put this restaurant near the top of my "favorite steakhouse" list for DFW. That being said, there's not much to differentiate it from the other favorites - Bob's, Nick & Sam's, Pappas Bros. But that's hardly a strike against it.

Cristina's
Pretty standard Tex-Mex fare. Our margaritas were fine, but not outstanding. I had one of the large Tex-Mex platters, and the wife had a smaller entree (pretty non-memorable... I can't even remember what it was now). The fajitas we saw delivered to the neighboring tables looked good. Service was attentive and water glasses were quickly refilled. Don't go early on a Thursday evening unless you don't mind a long wait, and a restaurant full of families with multiple young kids!

Weinberger's Delicatessen
A great find in downtown Grapevine! After a full day of house-hunting in the 'burbs, my wife and I popped by Weinberger's for an authentic Chicago deli experience... and we weren't disappointed. I had the Italian beef sandwich, wet and hot. Very messy, but also very tasty. My wife's "Packer Backer" dog (all beef dog, mustard and cheese) was meaty and perfect. Top it all off with a black cherry soda for a meal that can't be beaten.

Fish City Grill
Took my wife there recently for a quick, casual lunch, and we were very pleasantly surprised. I had the fish tacos, which were large in size and flavor, while my wife really enjoyed her crabcake sandwich, which offered much crabmeat and little filler. Overall, a very solid lunchtime choice, and the service was friendly and attentive!

I Fratelli
Love the thin-crust pizza, and i Fratelli pizza is pretty consistently good (not outstanding, but definitely good). I discovered i Fratelli thanks to working in Las Colinas, and I'm happy to say the pizza at the new Dallas location is just the same as it is in the suburbs. I recommend the Big Brother (pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers and green onions) or the Margherita speciality pizzas. So far, the delivery service is also efficient and pleasant -- haven't had more than a 25-minute wait for delivery yet, even during peak dinner hours!

Never mind, i found the "add as favorite button." That was tricky.
