Dallas VideoFest 2009: Sneak previews
I was initially drawn to Died Young, Stayed Pretty because I'm a sucker for underground artists, and my interior decor features more concert posters than a woman of my age should admit to. Director Eileen Yaghoobian takes us to the dark underbelly of outlaw artists -- the mad brains behind the most raw form of music marketing. It was fascinating to see how this particular art form translates across genre (birthing mostly from the punk era). Like all art, it is subjective. What influences an artist to create a poster may not reflect in the beholder's interpretation. What matters, though, beyond whether or not said poster gets a person to a particular show, is the graphic memorability. Imagine the power of a gripping poster that ultimately attracted you to a particular show, and then that show just so happened to lead to the discovery of your new favorite band! Granted, this is coming from a person who routinely rips concert posters off bar walls on the way out (but only if the show is really, really good). All the same, this is a film for artists.

Cedar Hill's "Hell House" featured on documentary and NPR's This American Life
It's true, there's a "Decision Room" at the end of the line in which visitors have the opportunity to convert/re-commit to Christianity.
This is, of course, after watching a school shooting, an abortion, a rape scene (or two), and a teenage boy die of AIDS.

Friday, Sept. 25: The most eventful day ever
Well spotted, Scott.
If there is any band on the planet that renders me completely incapable of objective journalism, it is Snarky Puppy.
That being said, their music taught me how to love and properly appreciate beautiful music. So if it's any good, I'll probably like it. Now, if it incites my passion for music and enthusiastic praises burst forth declaring yet another "favorite," you may rest assured, Dear Reader, I still love my Pups a little bit more.

Concert review: The Raven Charter
Kelly -- thank you for your comment. You bring up a decent point about there being more attention paid in detailing the musical description.
Please note that would not have necessarily made for a more favorable review.
Jtbmls -- it's good to know we have a reader who wanted to hear about Vanilla Ice, duly noted. He was likely overlooked in favor of one local act or another (our musical priorities are close to home).

List-loving Dallas Morning News does "best taquerias." Scandal: Oft-cited Fuel City not included! That should generate some comments, hoo boy.
No Fuel City! They clearly don't know what they're talking about. Sacrilege!

Upcoming Denton concerts - August 28-29
Denton's gonna be pretty bumpin' this weekend. First weekend with all the students back is usually pretty wild. There are approximately three-five shows I want to be at each night (including Sunday) -- Maybe I'll sleep mid-September.
