Drums Not Guns founder and Dallas resident Happy Shel Weisman dies
Happy spread much joy and love everywhere he went. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on thru the many, many lives he touched.

Checking out the vegetarian tasting menu at Nana at Dallas' Hilton Anatole Hotel
I was at the Anatole for DIFFA event last Saturday and requested the Vegan plate. It was superb! Meanwhile, my tablemates were less than impressed with the bland rubber chicken dish.

Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, April 1-7
The Heights Baptist Church will host its annual Easter Eggstravaganza 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Breckinridge Park, entrance B, south of Renner Road at 2650 Brand Road in Richardson.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free with a requested donation of a nonperishable food item to benefit area food pantries.
Kids from toddler-aged to third grade will be divided into age groups to hunt thousands of candy-filled plastic eggs. There will also be bounce houses and face painting.

while The Tower is in downtown Fort Worth, it is NOT in Sundance Square, and it is not managed by Sundance Square Management.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram to charge for online content?
I can't speak for "most adults" but I still read a daily newspaper (note: this is a physical product where ink stains the newsprint which I hold in my hands while drinking my morning coffee) 7x week. This is in addition to reading many online new sources and blogs. Oh, I also still subscribe to several magazines (ink stains on glossy paper stock) but those are generally reserved for potty breaks. It's much more fulfilling than balancing a laptop on my knees. Not much chance I'd pay for online content.

Texas Rangers trade closer Eddie Guardado to the Minnesota Twins for a Hamburger
hmmm...it must be after the All Star break because the Rangers are heading for the cellar. Every year I try to tell myself this year will be different. How hard is it to understand that PITCHING wins games? We have great hitters and fielders, but they don;t seem to value great pitching.

North Texas Tollway Authority increases speed limit at toll-booths for vehicles with toll-tags
I found out the hard way one night when I passed a DPS trooper going thru a fast lane tolltag lane on George Bush Tollway near Preston Rd. He pulled me over and asked if I knew the speed limit was 45 mph or some-such nonsense. I said, you gotta be kidding me...I would be putting my family's life in danger if I were to slow to 45 mph when the majority of cars are going at least 70 mph or more. He informed me that 45 mph was the posted speed thru the toll tag station even in the fast lanes. He let me off with a warning (one of very few I've ever recieved in my entire life). Sure enough, the next time thru I looked and there really was a 45 mph sign approaching the toll booths. Needless to say I still didn't slow down to 45 mph and have not since.

Christians shying away from charitable giving because of bad economy
did anyone poll aetheists? Mormons? Muslims? Cocker spaniels? What's the point of the poll if there is no comparison? So the bottom line is a sampling of Christians surveyed said they were cutting back on charitable giving? Members of my church recently took on support of more than 500 Ugandan children. They didn't shy away or worry about the cost of petrol. Maybe the pollsters asked the wrong people?

Random YouTube video of the day -- watch out for cyclists!
I even went back and re-played the video to be sure it wasn't creative editing. Really makes a point.

The not-so-new (but still awesome) "flash mob" fad surfaces in Dallas
Put me in, coach, I'm ready to play! Bet Foggerty's "Centerfield" will be rattling around in your skull for the rest of the day now. That is one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed! I would def participate in an event that would forever be etched in the kids' minds.

Hauntingly beautiful. Wow. I love the Buckley version, but she wrings the emotion from it without being overwrought. Superb.

Children’s Cancer Fund to host its 20th Annual “Beyond the Rainbow” Luncheon and Fashion Show
I won't say I KNOW Mandy (aka Willa, etc.) but I have met her several times over the past several years at various charity events and she is a very nice lady. Believe me, I've met plenty of celebs who are full of themself. She has always been very approachable and friendly. I will be attending the Children’s Cancer Fund Fashion Show and fully support their efforts. As has so eloquently been said above, I would do a lot less savory things to help kids battling cancer. It's not about the celebs...they're just gracious enough to volunteer their time...it's all about the kids (cancer patients) that get to accompany the celebs down the runway.

UPDATED: Dallas-based GodTube launches virtual prayer wall and Bible
Check out IslamicTube.com and (for balance) JewTube.com I don't understand why anyone is threatened by anything posted on the internet...or TV or any other media. If you don't like something, just don't go there. When terrorists were beheading people online and the media was posting links to their sites, I chose NOT to go there. Sure, I was curious. But I refused to legitimize their actions by letting them count my page view.

A seasonal reminder there is no God
Don't blame God for giving Man free will. Blame our sick society that we elevate Ozzie and Jessica and the likes to celebrity status. When people hit the OFF switch, they will fade mercifully into the long night.

Mountain lions in Allen? State wildlife officials think not.
One drizzly, cool Sunday morning about 2 years ago we were driving east on Renner Road, about 1/2 mile from Central Expressway, when a very large cat sprung out from the greenbelt area and crossed Renner headed north. As near as we could determine, it was probably a cougar. There's still plenty of wildlife in the hinterlands. But don't tell TPW. We'd rather they NOT mess with Texas.
