R.I.P. Maynard Ferguson
Maynard Ferguson was one of the first jazz artists my Dad introduced to me when I was a kid (he used see Maynard a lot in the Philly jazz scene back in the '60s), and I've been a big fan ever since. I always saw his shows whenever he passed through whatever town I was living in and was never disappointed, even in the later years when he struggled to hit the high notes I marveled at on those recordings my Dad played for me. This is sad news, but I know what I'll be listening to tonight.

Idiots & A-Rod
I'm with you Blair. I don't understand the bashing this guy takes. Youngest ever to get to 450 HR, and it's hard to drive in 110-140 runs every year without some clutch hitting, another dumb knock against him. It's not his fault his vampire of an agent suckered Hicks into that contract. (By the way, Hicks let himself get suckered again by Boras on Millwood--they're going to regret that deal.)

Movie Review: Superman Returns
As long as you're mentioning the messianic material, I've got a few more. At the end, Supes leaves Jason to be raised by Earth parents like he was, with Richard presumably taking on the Joseph role (eventually he's gonna know where this kid came from). Also, maybe I missed it, but I don't think they mentioned how long he was in the hospital. Three days sound about right? Finally, it seemed fitting that one of the previews before the film was for something called "Nativity." I actually don't mind the whole Christ story allegory, but it wasn't very subtle.

Movie Review part deux: Nacho Libre
I thought there was a consciousness behind Black's performance, whereas I think Jon Heder actually is Napoleon Dynamite. Benchwarmers? N. Dynamite is still a better movie though.

Thanks, spammer. You got my hopes up that they were coming back to town. I need more shirts!
