Best Bites: Dining out in Dallas-Fort Worth December 5
The best banh mi I've had was at the now-defunct Mr. Munchies in Denton. I miss that place.

I know I'm late to the party here ...
Jason, we did discuss historical avatars at the point when people started making comments that contextually involved their current avatar, but we ended up deciding against it. Pictures are such strong identifiers that we were afraid somebody would be able to not actually but effectively change their site identity by changing their avatar. It would be much more difficult to follow a conversation when a person's avatar changed 2 or 3 times its course.
Think of it as a masked party with nametags. Even though you can read people's names, it becomes confusing when they all begin to change (or possibly even switch) masks in the middle of a conversation.

New product Wednesday, at Dallas-area Central Markets: Bubbies Mochi Ice Cream
I just tried green tea, pumpkin, and azuki bean (red bean), and while all 3 were good, the azuki bean is the standout for me. I guess it helps that the other 2 are standard flavors, so you pretty much know what you're getting. But I haven't met a mochi I didn't like, and Bubbies didn't disappoint.

Fort Worth-based Oroweat cuts out high fructose corn syrup from its breads
It's also worth mentioning that many of these companies (including Jones) moving to sugar are actually using inverted cane sugar, which like geopunk mentioned about HFCS, has been separated into its component glucose and fructose.

You do realize tonic water has HFCS don't you?

Dallas-based Pizza Hut has online way to gift people with pizza
The Pizza Hut closest to me is now, according to the sign outside, known simply as "The Hut". Now all they have to do is add the "Pizza" back in and they'll have the sci-fi satire market cornered.

Texas-based Jason's Deli chain removes high fructose corn syrup from its food offerings
You mean the kind of salt you put on a sweet, delicious, golden ear of corn?

Hydrant Café opens new location in Denton
Full disclosure: Glen is a good friend of mine. That said, this is by far the best espresso in Denton. It's also very laptop friendly. There are outlets at each booth downstairs and plenty upstairs too. That makes a killer combo when I'm looking for a place to
change all your avatars to mineget some work done. -

Rockin' Nut Road ... I think that's the newly proposed name for Avenue K.

The Colony-based Pizza Inn introduces new old prototype in Denton
I looked pretty busy the couple of times I've driven by it ... at least more so than the Texadelphia that used to occupy the spot ever was. That doesn't say much for quality, though. The best restaurants (IMO) in Denton are rarely busy.
An interesting side note: Pizza Inn franchises are the cheapest in the industry ... and it often shows in the management.

Restaurant review: Greenhouse Restaurant and Bar in Denton
I know a lot of people who love this place, but I've just never been that impressed with the food. My last (and probably final) time there, I swear whatever was on my chicken tasted like petrol.

UNT athletic referendum voting underway
I'm with you on the unfairness of penalizing future students for decisions made now, but what would you propose as a fairer solution? Would it be better for current students to pay for a stadium they'll likely never see?

UNT Student Government discusses new stadium
Woah woah woah, hold up there a bit on the decent CS school. A UNT CS grad was my replacement at a previous job I worked. The only language she knew from her career as an undergrad student in their department: Fortran. You heard me right. She was a veritable deer in headlights when I started showing her around the Java apps I had been developing. So unless the school's done a complete 180 in the last few years, I wouldn't tout their CS department as stellar.
