Dallas ISD may cut teaching staff at magnet schools
This article is helpful in understanding the lack of thought in taking 'funding' away from Booker T. Washington and other magnet school... http://www.dallasobserver.com/2009-05...

At-Home Dinner of a Food Writer (with photos)
I truly understand the toast thing. I like warm wheat toast and peanut butter, so melty smooth! And just so you know, I almost never eat dessert.

Greater Lewisville Community Theatre
You must see the current play "Sideman". It is very good. It is very well cast, and is a interesting slice of life. Don't go if curse words offend you, though. It is very profane.

UPDATED: Dallas restaurateur Bob Sambol, of Bob's Steak & Chop House, indicted for theft
Mr. Sambol clearly has an unfortunate problem that he cannot control. He needs to address it sincerely, seek real help, and make good on the loan. I assume that if he did this, this lawsuit would go away.

Rather-unfortunately-named Cake Ball Company opening Dallas factory in Lake Highlands
They are also called 'cruffles' like cake truffles, and lighter tasting that the ubiquitous rum balls. Not too bad a use for leftover cake if you are in a bakery...there is always left over cake tops from torting cakes. Of course these entrepreneurs are baking their cake to make the cake balls, I guess...

Sundown Collaborative Theatre opens A Clockwork Orange this weekend in Denton
These guys/women really try to push the edges. Their recent production of reinterpreted Grimm's Fairy Tales was very interesting. Worth a visit up to Denton, for sure. They are planning on doing The Eight Reindeer monologues this year as well.

McKinney Repertory Theatre
Really cute and campy. The girls really belt out the songs, and the guys are spot on in their portrayals! Very fun and entertaining.

The Belmont Hotel
I gave my son and his new wife a honeymoon night at the Belmont in late October. They loved it, and had a lovely time. They really enjoyed the bar and the great attitude of the employees; unobtrusive and yet attentive and fun!

UPDATED: SMU student Meaghan Bosch's body discovered near Waco
As a parent of two college-aged kids, and a former attendee at SMU, I think that the current rash of deaths should be examined in the wake of suspected drug usage in at least two of the deaths. I would like SMU to be proactive in trying to offer more help, peer-counseling and alternatives to the drinking and drugging that has been a part of the atmosphere at SMU at least since I was there in the 70's. Christ knows SMU pulls in enough money to help kids out more than the current laissez-faire attituded seems to be.
