Andrew - yeah, I'm with you. But then we weren't paying the bills really either. I'm only hovering to hear ScoDo's holiday party shenanigans. If new and better folks are paying the bills then it gets both my votes.

Since ScoDo is obviously busy, I'll ask the searing question:

    But what about the children?

Yep - flashblock is your friend. And if I can just get the repeat rate on my "Page Down" to be triple the rest of the keyboard - I'm set. I still think zero-data above the fold is annoying. (whoami and "still cloudy" seems a little uninformative, albeit cheerful)

ok, so printed media DOES have one slight advantage. Old crusty yellow paper does connote untimeliness.

Christmas tree sale results still a mystery in Dallas-Fort Worth

    Immigrant slave?

I figure he's doing the boutique orchard thing, kinda like the zillion guys doing "humane" chickens and pork for anti-corporate food yuppies that will pay $8 a pound for 'legitimate" food sources.

So Pavel. Are you gonna sell those as "Free Range Pines" or what?

Lost stuff that isn't really lost

I figure I'm the one in 25,000 that needs it. I'm not recommending a Bataan Death March to get it, either. Just trying to archive stuff for grant apps.

While visually it's growing on me, I'm just now trying to print out a review to send someone (yeah - snail mail) and I have to say, the print/html is unsalvagable. Holy Moses!

I'm probably going to have to settle for image screen grabs stitched together. I can't imagine that is high priority, but Firefox is a train wreck and IE just locked up again.

Only two recent comments DOES make it easier to monopolize the column.

That's a lame attempt at "glass half full" commenting.

When Black Friday comes, where should you stand down by the door?

Bud - this is why Black Friday is dead.

Joe Public knows there are only two of the whatever in stock... so why bother.

The only thing WORSE than shopping on a holiday like this morning is having done so JUST after watching for the first time the Mike Judge distopia Idiocracy

What if he just agreed to carry a "man-bag" or get a spring Prada wardrobe? Does he actually have to date a guy to be viable?

Dallas Morning News considering joining Murdoch in paywall, Google block.

So how does this all work?

So you ban the Google-bots and your info doesn't show up on searches.

$64,000 question: When was the last time you got a DMN article from a Google search anyway? Not in my living memory.

Hmm. Looks like the font variety is only for the layout.

No font formatting available in comments any more. Only raw Markdown. Bummer.

Pics don't seem to embed either. bummer. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3183/2...

On the other hand -- all the white space could be ads. So the most talked about stuff runs the most ads.

And for a small weekly fee, I can regularly infuriate LULAC that yet another public facility, public thoroughfare or private building has not yet been rename Cesar Chavez!

I mean, isn't it about time TXU acknowledged their debt to that great Arizonan by being known as Cesar Chavez Electrical Extortionists? The logo possibilities for CCEE are darned near limitless.

ok, yeah, I've developed an opinion.

22 "page downs" past blank white space (right bar) to see what "Most Discussed" (cool, but bottom of page) "Latest Stories" and "Latest Comments" are -- kinda predicates their eventual extinction.

With 50% Non-data at the top of each page, I'm giving the new look a solid B-

Let's see if the new functionality wins me over.

Latest comments at the bottom is a bit of a shame.... especially with so much blank space above the fold.

On the other hand -- I bet more people care that it's partly cloudy than that ScoDo has another ax to grind with Tumbles' dating plans.

And did we lose a coupla comments of my whinging about the whiteness (no Mike not the Caucasian-ness... we all know Colleen will keep us honest on that front) and the teensy default font?

Dallas mayor’s church of choice causing flap in LGBT circles

I always get tickled when the LGBT front collides with Southern Baptists.

Ya see, in my home town of about 100K, our square little backwards college had one of the early gay student unions in Texas. Ironically, the week the Gay Student Union announced formation, membership at the Baptist Student Union fell accordingly by over 50%.

Yep, they were all hiding in plain sight and yep, we all knew it. Ya never saw so many flaming Baptists till then.

And Rick, I know that image has GOT to give you the giggles. It did me.
