BugMeNot: Is it good for you?

Most people use BugMeNot on sites which offer nothing in return for the registration.

I wonder what the motivation for it was here, and how many people were using it.

    Exposure or Exploitation?

I have a friend who is in a local band and, like so many, was happy just to get a label. Nevermind that the label is a friend of a friend of some guy, and that it's a startup, and that it's exclusive, and...

I told him maybe he should try putting some MP3s up and see how it goes before selling his twenties away so easily. ;)

    Wikitruthiness

There's some scholarly work[1] indicating that media mentions of Wikipedia articles significantly improves those articles over time.

Just because Colbert suggested misinformation be posted to Wikipedia doesn't mean that there won't be net gain for Wikipedia. Sort of like there being no such thing as bad publicity.

I found the segment particularly interesting as it drew into conflict several different interests of mine. This'll be fun to watch. :)

    Local yokel

Don't miss the comments on buzzmachine either. One snip: " When I was in Grand Forks, ND, the ideal paper would have been a joint publication of the Grand Forks Herald and the New York Times… The folk at the Herald would concentrate on local news, local perspective and local advertisers while the New York Times would provide their usual indepth coverage of international and national news.... Advertising precision

    Click fraud is huge.

I'm waiting for the day that a Windows worm is written to silently click through goog ads that show in the user's IE session.

    Think about it. :0

    The Times, they're a changin'

Via another route, I just pre-ordered the album.

He did an multi-channel distribution for Greendale a year or two ago, too.

He's an old guy, but he's out there on the leading edge.

    "Emerging as hell"

I'm stupidly excited to read this. (I'm a senior at UTD and a citJ/wikipedia geek.)

TexasGigs: It's not just the music anymore

My favorite feature is that it's fast. I used moviefone all the time and hated it each time. :)

For the uninitiated, which included me, The Star-Telegram was a Knight Ridder (KR) paper. KR was just sold to McClatchy, a firm less known for its commitment to quality journalism (says I with the velvet glove).

Dan Gillmor has a good perspective on the deal because he worked for the San Jose Mercury (also a KR paper), and is a journalist in the high sense of the word.
