"I trusted you"
Thanks, Mike.
That explains so much. Wish I could have made Saturday's show as well.

Favoriting and UnContest: Robert Cray / Guy Forsyth
I too can vouch for Forsyth.
He was a founding member of Asylum Street Spankers and if his recent mini-show at Bill's records was any indication, he still has it going on.
Plus he has some of the coolest guitars I've ever seen.

The Gourds / Mariachi Inolvidable
You might want to double check the start time at this place. The show started at 7 PM.
We got there in time for the encore.

Bible study not a big draw at Tarrant County high schools
Man, things sure have changed in my lifetime.
I was raised in a hard-core fundamentalist evangelical household and if there had been a bible study class in school, I'm sure I would have had a note from my parents insisting that I be excused from it since there was no way a public school was going to accurately interpret the bible in the way it was meant to be interpreted (black and white without any hint of analogy or metaphor).
Of course in those days our church was kind of a fringe religion that had no interest in being part of the larger culture.
Now we have a vice presidential candidate from the same denomination and that fact alone may be the very thing that puts her ticket over the top (God help us all).
Also, interestingly, many evangelicals I broach the subject with today don't seem to have any grasp of where the bible came from or know much about many of the characters and stories it contains, much less the context.

Metro Grill at US 75 and Knox in Dallas closes; Chips Hamburgers nearby to follow suit
I went to Chips on Cole recently after not having been there in a decade or so. The burgers were nothing like what I remember from back when I lived in the neighborhood and was a regular.
Back then they were big, messy and probably the best in town. What I got recently was a slightly dry, nondescript run of the mill cheeseburger.
Terribly disappointing.

By the way, is that your car he's having towed?

Fighting crime in Texas should include investing in kids
Seems to me that investing public funds in early childhood education wouldn't see any real results for too many election cycles.
So I can't see where the idea stands a chance. Nothing in this country is done politically for the long term. Not anymore, anyway.

Mesquite considering stricter rules for pit bulls
So if you outlaw pit bulls- where do you draw the line with hybrids? half pit bull? one quarter pit bull?
I've never owned a dog that was full breed anything. And aren't pit bulls a fairly wide mix of "breeds" anyway? What if one mates with a pomeranian?
One of the scariest looking but sweetest natured dogs I've ever known was a friend's Half bull terrier- half boxer.

Concert review: The Smithereens at Glass Cactus (August 20)
I have to concur with your appraisal, Mike. I had never seen them before either and didn't really know what to expect. I ended up having a blast. They played all the hits, the three I remember anyway, and still sounded great.
Quite a room, that Glass Cactus. I had no idea such a huge convention-hotel-entertainment complex existed out there in Grapevine.
My only very minor complaint would be the bathroom attendant. Not that he was anything but courteous but I'd like to be able to slip in the men's room, do my business, wash my hands and not feel compelled to tip someone for that.

Should the U.S. lower the legal drinking age?
I think if you're old enough to lose your arms, legs or life, not to mention your sanity, in a war then you're old enough to legally drink a beer. Or whatever.

UPDATE: The Theater Fire's Matter and Light NOT available at shows in July
I googled it.
Pegasus News came up third, after the venues own site- which was first and second.
I also googled the theater fire, Pegasus' TTF band page was the first result on the second page.

Question # 1- I know and have known all kinds of people, from white collar embezzlers to crooked politicians and cops to lowly, desperate street hustlers. And more.
Question # 2- yes.

UPDATED: Cheech and Chong blaze into Dallas on November 1
I saw these guys many years ago when I was stationed in Norfolk, VA and it was probably the funniest live comedy show I've ever seen. They were much, much funnier than any of their records or later movies would have prepared me for. Even the bartenders at the club could barely pour drinks they were laughing so hard.

but that's got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen posted here. And, Mr or Ms Artemis#, you've got some competition for that title.
