Fadi's Mediterranean Grill
The food is good but the ordering system is confusing. You go through the line but its not clear how to order or what you get. I just point at things and get what I want, but if you want some kinds of meat, you have to take a number and wait for them to bring it to your table. Its confusing but the value is good. I love their pita!

Buzzbrews Kitchen
Its kind of like Cafe Brazil, only smaller and better. On the negative side, the wait can be long, parking is hard and the service can be slowwwwwww. Once you finally get to eat, the food is pretty good. I like their omelets and their garlicky potatoes. Its a funky little place in a strange location, but somehow it works.

Pasand Indian Cuisine
I don't venture north all that often, but this is a spot I like for Sunday brunch. I've never tried their regular menu, just the buffet, which is the best I've had in Dallas. The buffet is bigger than most and always has some different and unusual choices. Great curries and veggie dishes. Eat up, then skip dinner!

The Oceanaire Seafood Room
Giant helpings, with sides and desserts served family style. If you get there early, they sometimes have 1/2 price oysters on Friday during happy hour. Fish is well cooked and the menu has lots of choices. Make sure to save room for the Baked Alaska and bring friends to share it with! The key lime pie is great too.

Fogo de Chao
You know the drill. Fill up at the salad bar, then start the meat brigade by flipping over your coaster-thing from red to green. Eat till you are sick. Skip dessert. Then sleep poorly because you are so full. I always enjoy the garlic picanha and the chicken. If you crave meat, this is your place.

Capriccio Ristorante
Friends took us here and wow, what a great find. The restaurant is hidden away in a new, funny shopping center across from the Galleria and is not visible from the street. The food was surprisingly good. In fact, it was excellent. My pasta dish was one of the best I've had in a long time and everyone else in our party loved their food too. I wish more people knew about this restaurant, it truly is fantastic. Prices are reasonable too.

Primo's Bar & Grille
I'm a sucker for a good patio and Primo's has one of the best, especially for people watching. Its always crowded so come early. The food is standard Tex-Mex and the margaritas are excellent. Give me a good margarita and a nice patio and I am set. Some people complain about parking, but I've never had trouble getting a spot across the street.

Lola The Restaurant (Closed)
One of my very favorite restaurants. I love the setting, in the old house. The menu changes often, and is prix fixe. Its a bargain though for the quality and quantity of food. I've never had a bad meal here. The wine list is fantastic too, huge and reasonably priced with a tiny markup. If you want a great choice for a special occasion, Lolas is the place.

Rockfish Seafood Grill
I feel guilty when I eat here because Rockfish is a focus-group created chain. Still, it's not bad for the money and there isn't much else in Mockingbird Station that's any good. They do basic fish and they do it decently. You know what to expect and you get it. I do have one big complaint, last time I was there I ordered a frozen margarita and it clearly came from a blender. Hey Rockfish, this is Texas! Buy a frozen margarita machine!

Texadelphia
It's not Philly but its good enough. Probably the best cheesesteaks in town, although there isn't a whole lot of competition. I like the one with chicken (sacrilege, I know) and I add extra mushrooms. A good spot for lunch, even if it can be crowded. I do miss the old Uptown location where Zaza is now.

La Duni Latin Kitchen and Baking Studio
Always a good meal if you can stand the commotion and sometimes sketchy service. I can't think of a better option in Dallas for Latin American food and of course the desserts are to die for. But that's only part of the story. The drinks are also great, even if kind of pricey. Mojitos, caparinhas, margaritas....mmmmm. Great people watching too.

Houston's
Is there a recession? Because you wouldn't know it at Houston's. The wait here is always super long, and that hasn't changed at all recently. When finally seated, the food is worth it. Nothing earth-shattering or particularly innovative, just good, solid American food and excellent waitstaff. The burger is a solid choice and they have a good fish sandwich too. Salads are another good option.

Cafe Madrid
I like tapas a lot but have found Cafe Madrid to be overrated. The food and service can be hit and miss, but on my last visit was more miss than hit. Maybe they are coasting by on reputation and I get the feeling that they can do better. I haven't been to the other location, so maybe its better. Or maybe its causing the original location to suffer. Anyway, its Spanish tapas, so you know the drill. Best to come with a group so you can order lots of plates.

Cafe Istanbul
If you want something ethnic and are tired of asian food, give Cafe Istanbul a shot. The food is Turkish and Greek a little, and the menu is large and interesting. Prices are reasonable and there may or may not be a belly dancer there (I prefer it when there isn't because it is quieter). My favorite dish is eggplant, done in a middle eastern sauce of some kind. Fun for a casual, but different, night out.

Tei An
This is maybe the best restaurant I've eaten at in the last year. Very unusual, but cool menu, with tons to choose from. This isn't the kind of place you expect to find in Dallas, it's more of a NY restaurant. I love the duck soba. In fact, I've loved everything I've ever had here (been twice). Sake selection is good too and the interior is relaxing and refined. I'd eat here every night if I could afford it!

Bubba's
A great option when you need fried food and grease. The fried chicken is good, but not the best I've ever had. I wish it had more of a spicy kick, but maybe that's just me. Good fries and rolls. This isn't the kind of place you want to visit regularly, but it's fun for the once in a while fried food orgy.

The Idle Rich Pub
Much better food than you would expect from a bar. The mussels are really good and I like their sandwiches too. Beer selection is awesome and in winter I like the hot drinks. Sometimes the place can be really crowded and other times it isn't. I don't get that. But I always like it. I just wish the patio was better, like at its sibling the Old Monk.

Coal Vines
Some people love Coal Vines, others hate it. I fall in the middle. Sure, it's great people watching, but the crowds sometimes can be annoying. The pizza is good, but it is not great. I haven't tried anything else on the menu. The wine selection is decent, but kind of overpriced. The space inside can be cramped too. If this review sounds wishy-washy, its because I don't have a real strong opinion either way about this place.

Hook Line and Sinker
Definitely a Dallas institution. It's not much to look at from the outside (or inside) but it has a cool, seafood shack kind of vibe. Order at the counter then find a seat, outside if the weather is nice. Catfish is their specialty but everything I've tried is good. I love their boiled shrimp. This is one popular place; it is always crowded.

East Wind
It is dark and full of old people. But the food is very good. The sushi is better than it needs to be and the Vietnamese main menu has a lot of options. If this restaurant updated its interior to be less fuddy-duddy, it would draw a younger crowd, I think. The location is pretty good but parking has gotten harder with all the new construction nearby.

Maggiano's Little Italy
Large helpings. Food is pretty good for a Brinker's chain. I really like the stuffed mushrooms. Best to come here with a large group since helpings are really big. The pastas are pretty decent too, just be prepared to not sleep well after eating so much. The inside is nice, but not too fancy. It's Northpark, after all. A good option if PF Chang's is too crowded.

Taco Diner
The best people watching in Dallas, on the patio. It's great fun to see all the current and ex-SMU sorority girls go strutting by trying to look hot. The food is fine. Good chips and margaritas. The tacos are pretty good but aren't real big, so I end up eating too many chips. Mostly, I come here to drink and ignore the food.

Deep Sushi
I keep on waiting for Deep Sushi to go out of business, but it never does. I don't think I've ever been here when there were more than a handful of other people eating. The sushi is ok, not bad but not great either. It will do in a pinch. Been here for lunch a few times too, but not recently. Not a bad deal for lunch.

The Cheesecake Factory
It's the Cheesecake Factory, so expect a long wait and a huge menu. The food is functional and covers pretty much every cuisine imaginable. The cheesecake is the best thing, probably. At this location parking can be a pain. I've never really understood why everyone loves this place. It's not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Bread Winners Cafe and Bakery
I think everyone in Dallas has eaten here. I love to go for brunch and lunch, but haven't been for dinner in a long time. The brunch wait can often be 45 minutes, but they turn the tables quickly. I enjoy their granola and their pancakes and the free bread of course. Cute little courtyard too, which is great when the weather is nice. Breadwinners is definitely a Dallas institution!

Dallas family's Christmas will be less merry than expected
