Owners of Bijoux to open restaurant in Westin Galleria Dallas
Just last night I was able to obtain a coctail at the second floor and, by my calendar, it's still 2008. Your note reeks of sarcasam, but your well wishes must have paid off regardless!

Dallas Stars fire GM Doug Armstrong
Yep, this fish is rotting from the head. Unfortunately, the rotten head isn't the GM. Maybe someone needs to start peddling 'Sell the Stars' T-shirts before the game...

Forbes issues major smack-down to Tom Hicks for mismanaging the Dallas Stars
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The Stars franchise will look and feel no differently than the Rangers franchise as long as an owner that doesn't care about winning is at the helm. It may be a 'valuable franchise', but as a fan...I'm not all that interested in Hicks ability to sell the franchise and make money. I want the owners of the teams for which I am a fan to be upset when their team does not win. I want them to care. Hicks clearly does not pay attention to the scores, he's focused on the bottom line. If we, as fans, are lucky than one of two things will happen. Hicks will sell or he will come to realize that the easiest way to 'keep butts in seats' is to win. It will be like the Mavs before Cuban came along where they made thier money off people coming to see Jordan play a few times a year.

UPDATED with video: Violations and revenue from red light cameras down in Dallas area
Red light violations have also dropped in Richardson, Frisco, and Garland, says CBS 11.
Dallas says that red light camera fines will be $6.5 million lower than expected.
So...is this a success in the eyes of CBS 11 and a failure in the eyes of Dallas? Something feels a bit backwards about both of those viewpoints.
Regardless, it's not a good week to be a red light camera salesperson...

Dunkin' Donuts to open 125 stores in Dallas over next few years
Losing a Donut Palace is kind of like losing a Dairy Queen or gaining a Wal-Mart. It's sad, but it's just the logical progression of the invisible hand that guides us in spite of all of our kicking and screaming. I guess one could move to Brownsboro or something and look forward to the day a Donut Palace opens...or would that be keeping the cycle alive?

Upsetting story about a pack of dogs killing cats in East Dallas
Maybe it's cheaper and more efficient to pick up the loose animals with a shovel than it is to chase them around with a net. Promotions may have been handed out on that tax dollar stretching idea! Besides, the new laws make it the owner of the loose animals problem (if they were responsible enough to pay for one of those injected ID tags) rather than the city's problem. Everybody wins...

UPDATED: War protesters blocking Mockingbird-75 overpass during rush hour, moved on by 5:45
Good point? Are you kidding me? Let me guess, when there's another tragic event in the US will you then claim that we deserved it and had it coming? Possibly when 30 school busses explode in some magnificent display across the nation you will think that it was all Bush's fault that it happened and if we don't respond we can all just say we're sorry or that 'we're even' or 'bygones' and roll back to simpler time when we didn't have to think about this. Maybe we should just ask the Islamic fascists why we all can't just get along? Should we simply ask nicely that the 'terrorists' confine themselves to a single country and establish a recognized government if they wish to attack the US so that we may debate their issues with them and maybe offer them some sort of restitution for our alleged wrong doings as a nation? Start small, prove to me that you can make a difference by eliminating road rage from Dallas - then I'll consider your rhetoric on world peace. Until then I'm all for stay the course, stabilize Iraq, stabilize the region, operate in Iraq as a strong ally in the region to influence Iran so that the people have a chance to change for themselves. It's about changing the world. Yes, it is our responsibility and our duty to do so both for the good of the USA and the good of the world. There's no GOOD reason why Iran, Iraq, etc are not responsible world powers that can stand at the table with rest of the world and make an impact on our collective futures in this small world. That wont happen any time soon if we truly cut and run right now.
We stormed into THEIR country, liberated THEIR country, helped them rebuild THEIR country, assisted them in governing THEIR country, turned THEIR country around and they are reclaiming THEIR country...and the bad guys 'still' want to kill us. Hhhhm...what a surprise.
I'll stop for now to keep the anticipated rebuttal to a single page.

Walgreens propane policy demonstrates East Dallas' crime problem
I've seen some of the persons living under the overpass around I45/I30 with heating and cooking devices that require propane to run. Maybe there's a robin hood ring to get these people through the winter.

The big city is following the burbs. Soon Mockingbird, Abrams and Buckner will be toll roads and local businesses will landscape with dead plants.

Times Ten Cellars
Awesome location to sit, chat, have a bottle of wine and snack on some crackers. My wife and I reserved the place one Friday afternoon/evening for our wedding reception and it was awesome - they were very accomodating. I'd recommend it as a place for a couple, a couple of couples or an all out bash like we had. The owners and the staff are fantastic - and you can purchase a case of wine to take home with you!
