AT&T Performing Arts Center will finally get its box office
Sarah I thought about Pearl Cup too, but since they have the new location at St. Paul Place, I don't expect them to move anytime soon.
Dallas Business Journal reported that 211 N. Ervay is under contract and could become a hotel, which would completely turn around weekend business for 1700 Pacific (Starbucks).

Thanks Teresa. I actually do go to that Starbucks every Saturday and I very much appreciate their new hours. I just suppose that if they opened a Starbucks in the Arts District, it would do better on weekends and there probably wouldn't be a need to keep the 1700 Pacific Starbucks open on Sat and Sunday.
Of course I'm also hoping that the buildings around Main Street Garden fill up quickly and we won't even need to thank Starbucks for staying open on weekends.

I know this is sacrilege but I will say it: I would love to see a Starbucks in that space if it keeps good business hours (evenings, weekends and mornings, of course). The other Starbucks in the area are not company-owned... basically an amenity for tenants of those office towers and thus worthless to people like me who actually pass through Flora every day, including weekends.

UPDATED: City Hall Plaza transforms into a park on Wednesday
Couple of reasons why City Hall Plaza is dead: Crossing Young Street on foot is like playing Russian Roulette but less fun. And everything surrounding the plaza smells like urine.

Hotels are in favor of 2% tax tacked on to hotel stays in Dallas
Since we love building freeways to the suburbs, wouldn't be surprised if they used the money to feature Cowboys Stadium, Frisco Square and the Shops at Legacy.

UPDATED: Alamo Drafthouse gets thumbs-up from Richardson planning commission
Alamo Drafthouse would be smart to consider Victory Park or the old West End Cinema for a second location. It would attract all of Downtown/Design District/Stemmons. Who can we write to with this suggestion?

Review: Dallas Opera's showing of The Magic Flute made Texas history
Glad to know parking was free. In that case, as mentioned, there was plenty of revenue from concession sales.

Sushi Axiom on Cedar Springs to close Monday
Fin and Axiom were the exact same restaurant. They just changed the name hoping to attract the Sushi Axiom crowd, but clearly that wasn't enough.
Now Monica Greene has a great opportunity to bring back the days of Ciudad, which I hear was amazing back in the day.

Review: Dallas Opera's showing of The Magic Flute made Texas history
I hope this becomes a regular event. Jerry gets parking revenue, the Dallas Opera gets a huge audience (and lots of email addresses for marketing purposes) and thousands of people get to experience some real culture. No reason why this can't grow to 30,000+ and in fact, they should consider simulcasting this in other stadiums like the Cotton Bowl.

West Dallas homeowners still fear return of investors
I would say the west side of the bridge has MUCH more potential for development since the downtown side, already hurt by the presence of the jail, is forever threatened by the zombie freeway/parkway that never dies. Trust me: NOBODY will want to shop, eat, live, work or play next to the Trinity Toll Road.

UPDATED: Rusty Taco to NOT go into Main Street Garden in downtown Dallas
The green paper peeling off is embarrassing for a brand-new park and the people in charge of maintaining it. Otherwise... WELCOME TO DOWNTOWN DALLAS, RUSTY TACO!

The Margaret Hunt Hill bridge will really cost $182 million
Isn't most of the money for the approaches that had to be built anyway? If so, it's not entirely accurate to say that the bridge (which most people identify as the signature white arch) cost $182M.

Dallas-Fort Worth area lags in plastic bag bans
I think this is a great opportunity to educate the public about a couple of things:
1) Are plastic bags recyclable the way your milk container is? That is, can you put them in your recycling bin? Why or why not? 2) Are paper bags a better alternative since paper is recyclable? Why or why not?

Site plans for Walmart on Lower Greenville in Dallas reveal interesting details
"when was the last time you saw anyone from Parking Enforcement write a parking ticket?"
Are you kidding me? Parking enforcement is a lucrative operation for the city, especially downtown. The VERY MINUTE your time expires on a meter, expect parking enforcement to write you a ticket.

Walmart going into Whole Foods on Greenville Ave makes one grocery too many

Very frustrating to see a grocery store open in a saturated market when downtown is so underserved.
