Dallas-based Pecan Lodge is Texas Monthly's second-best barbecue joint, sort of
Anyone know how Pecan Lodge will fare through the Farmers Market privatization? Are they staying, going, moving to a new location inside the market when it gets upgraded?

Joule Hotel expansion brings cocktails, fashion, food to downtown Dallas
I hope this inspires other retailers to open shops in nearby vacant spaces. Preferably stores that are more accessible to the rest of us.

Design District's new bowling alley offers cheap play and craft beer
Yet another example of how the Design District is doing everything right that Victory Park has done wrong. Places like Bowlounge/Twisted Root, Slice by Sfuzzi, Central Standard and The Food Boutique are providing the things that Victory should've offered YEARS ago. They cannot open fast enough.

Centralink, Dallas' network of shared bike lanes downtown, opens June 1
I absolutely hate shared lanes, but on Sunday I almost got run over by a vehicle going north on Houston St. Had the road not been clearly marked as a shared lane, the driver would've thought I was invading her space and surely would've honked, accelerated or who knows what.

UPDATED: Pearl Cup moves into Dallas Arts District May 13
I've actually had to eat at 7-Eleven before a show because I didn't have time to sit down at one of the other restaurants. Maybe this will be a good middle-ground alternative.

Cinco de Mayo is integral to American culture
Thanks for that history lesson. If you want to know about the actual Mexican Independence Day (September 16th) here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grito_de...

UPDATED: Second Katy Trail Ice House will open in Plano in late May
Will it be called Katy Trail Ice House and not be along the Katy Trail? That would be puzzling.

A recent story in the DMN mentioned that the observation deck at Reunion Tower would reopen this fall.

Dallas Midtown architects plan to create a city within a city
"city within a city" = disconnected car-centric ghost town.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day, meet Dallas resident Max Glauben, who survived five concentration camps and shares his stories at Dallas Holocaust Museum and other places.
Are there still plans to move the Holocaust Museum into a new building on Houston St? What's the status on that?

UPDATED: Bishop Cider Company reached its fundraising goal
Happy to have contributed (albeit a very small amount). It's fun being able to help launch these businesses.

Opinion: Save the farmer's market by bringing it out of downtown and to the people
There's a good reason to keep the farmers market where it is as well. I support the current plan to improve the market while increasing residential units.

Perot Museum may expand
I'm sure the museum can only expand in the direction of Victory Park, but it would be nice if any expansion included better pedestrian access from downtown or Klyde Warren Park.

Bill could allow liquor stores to sell on Sundays in Texas
I empathize with the small businesses who'd be forced to open on Sundays, but I don't think stifling competition is ever justified. Banning liquor sales on Sundays is outdated and makes no sense.

The Old Monk to offer free, non-compulsory valet
I've always hated how so many businesses in central Dallas have compulsory valet. But if we have to choose between valet and excessive parking requirements, Henderson would look like a big shopping center in Frisco.
This just highlights the need for transportation options like streetcars and pedicabs, and shows what a huge mistake it was to not finish the DART station on Henderson.

Mark Cassel will open a new restaurant called 20 Feet in East Dallas
Marketing 101: do not use the word "feet" in your restaurant. "Twenty" would've sufficed.

5 landmarks you probably didn't know about in Downtown Dallas
@choderus, I agree with you and did not mean that the monument is bad, just awkwardly placed in a corner of the cemetery. Before that, it was in Old City Park (Dallas Heritage Village) and I'm not sure why it was moved.

There's also the awkwardly placed Confederate Monument at Pioneer Cemetery. It's believed to be the oldest public sculpture displayed in Dallas.

DMA to become nation's first art museum to offer both free admission and tech-savvy free membership
This is what Dallas needs more of: institutions, corporations and especially citizens willing to take bold steps that make Dallas a national leader in something. Yes, we have much to be proud of in this city, but here's an example where other cities will say "Look at what Dallas is doing."
It's a great day to be living in Dallas.
