    Movie review: The Blind Side

I give Sandra Bullock a lot of credit for making this predictable plot "heartwarming," and I'll suggest that I saw lackluster-to-decent performances from others. Most of the patrons, myself included, left teary-eyed, loving this feel-good movie more than we expected.

Voters guide: Proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution for November 3 election

Best recap from any site I've found so far, and nowhere else could I find anything like Straight From The Horse's Mouth. Thanks!

The new Dallas Morning News eEdition is pretty cool. It's available to subscribers and on a trial basis to others.

Given the fact that I considered their web site to be abysmal in the past, this is clearly a quantum leap for DMN. Through the years I have watched local online news move from StarText to the proprietary Adobe-like files (tell em, Sarah, about Mizzou's foray into this), to browser-based content of nearly everyone. Now (finally!!!) DMN moves that direction.

When DMN tried to do it, I was driven to "anywhere but Belo" by their abusive use of pop-up, march across, spit at me ads. About 2 months ago I seriously tried to decide if I should give up my print edition of the DMN. Increasing the price by 50% didn't help, mind you. I hate to carry piles of print to the recycle bin every 2 weeks but, darn it, I really love to sit in my chair every morning before the sun rises with that hot cup of Joe and my local paper. With the right online delivery method I could dump the paper and sit with a laptop. This starts to be that.

Now, will DMN drop the price 50% if they don't have to stage, print and deliver my paper copy?

    Movie review: Jennifer's Body

Interesting. John, you say this is "the hippest, most wildly entertaining horror movie I've seen in a long, long time." The DMN reviewer says, "But, for a film that's supposed to be both scary and funny, it's not really either most of the time. And Kusama's languid direction lacks the energy that might have given it a kick." Sounds like Kusama's direction really kept your interest and apparently couldn't keep hers. I initially chose "pass" when I heard about this movie but now I'm intrigued.

Photo story: Radar-powered speed checkers raid the streets of Dallas

Has anyone tested whether they show speeds over 100mph? ...just wondering...

Dallas City Councilwoman Angela Hunt "raising alarm" about city budget

Our mayor, our City Manager and the rest of the City Council apparently have their heads in the sand. Going into debt with the plan of funding the City's long term growth is one thing. Yet this is not investment funding for future growth. This is like buying groceries on your credit card with no plan to pay it off anytime soon. Ms. Hunt asks a basic, important question: if we charge $314M to our "city credit card" this year and generate $24M in additional debt payment next year (as well as future years), where will we get that money? "We'll find it" is not an acceptable answer, Mayor Leppert and City Manager Suhm. Please try again.

Plano dad launches micro-blogging site like Twitter -- with a twist

From TipDrop website, "TipDrop creates focused sets of useful information on specific concepts" using a "built-in credibility engine." So this tip gets a 5: "Gardening is great for relieving stress. It is also a good form of exercise." I'm not convinced with either the "credibility" or "useful"-ness. Add a hundred chars to Twitter and I think they're toast.

Mythbusters: Lock your keys in your car?

I'm not sure how smart I am, but I was really skeptical of this one before we tried it. When I did a quick search I found that others got tricked too when the cell phone is only a short distance from the car. (http://darrellhblog.blogspot.com/2006...) This guy's story goes something like, "Hey it even works with the phone off. How cool is that?!" Then there's this one where they discuss deep science about modulation frequencies and such, getting a bit perplexed as to how it could actually work, then they have the "oh sh#t" moment that they are testing from their driveway. (http://digg.com/security/Tested_T_Mob...) Maybe it's time to send out that BlondeStar audio again...
