I'm having a difficult time fully understanding who is being referred to in the first paragraph when they say "'the company' has also agreed to pay $4 million". Are you referring to GSO partners or Reddy ice?

I wonder what would become of me if I illegally immigrate to Saudi Arabia or China? Certainly they would treat me better than we Americans treat our illegal immigrants. What with the free medical care offered by clinics and parkland (not to mention the fee based medical care that never gets paid for because you can't track down the illegals to make them pay), zero income tax, and free education, wow we're really making life miserable for our illegal immigrants aren't we. Why are they punishing the legal residents of farmer's branch instead of hitting the illegal immigrants with the fine? Ohh, wait the law doesn't apply to illegal immigrants, or if it does, they don't care, they're illegal remember. There's certainly one thing the illegal immigrant community has learned well and adopted from us Americans; a deep sense of entitlement.

"The counties with the highest percentage of same-sex couples are Culberson County (1.05% of all county households), Presidio County (1.03%), and Hudspeth County (1.01%)."
Has anyone been to these counties? They're practically empty, there aren't probably 5,000 people in the entire county, it's not that the concentration of same sex couples is high there it just there aren't hardly any people there at all.
"Same-sex couples live in 99% of the counties in Texas and constitute 1.0% of coupled households and 0.6% of all households in the state."
I guess that makes them the VERY vocal minority.

What's the harm? Every other university in Texas is teaching evolution, is it really going to hurt to have 1 that teaches both evolution and creation? I highly doubt it.

I'm in commercial real estate as well, and currently involved in a development/expansion project in an area where the local homeowners associations and business owners are very organized and influental; they can make or break a deal. We paid $20mm for this deal and The first thing we did was meet with them and get their 'wish list', answer their questions, and get signed letters of support for our project before we went to the city planner for project approval. It went a long way towards building goodwill with the community and ensuring that the city planner wouldn't block our progress. We also committed to retaining all the current local retail operators at the center and committed 25% of the new GLA to local tenants versus nationals. All in all it's just business, we're there to make money, but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it and I feel Mr. Landes went about it the wrong way and failed to utilize all the tools at his disposal to clearly communicate with the city leaders and community residents in this situation.
