Nobu
Best to come here when its not on your credit card and not worry about how much each little bite is costing. The waiters like to order for you so that you get the "complete Nobu experience" which works for us since the menu is pretty extensive, just make sure they know what your limit is.
Rock shrimp rock, great creamy sauce. The wagyu beef grilled at the table is great, but oh so expensive for the little bits of meat. Sushi has always been great, fresh, love the salmon and eel. For dessert get the mochi and love it. For drinks my wife loves the lychee martini.

Potbelly Sandwich Works
In the past year or two it seems like these places have sprouted up everywhere... Fast sandwiches can be good. I get the italian most everytime with lots of oil and italian seasoning and its pretty good. A little more expensive than subway and the sandwich is a little smaller, but its better. The chips here are the smallest I've ever seen sold. They have extras that look tempting like shakes and malts but I'm usually too full to try them.

Maxim's
Of Dallas dim sums, Maxim's is okay, but not as good as Kirin Court. The space is a little small and gets crowded.
Before Dallas we lived in Houston, where dim sum is unbelievable. This was the first dim sum place we came to and knew then that we had been spoiled in Houston.
Not bad, but prefer Kirin Court which is down the street not too far. -

Mia's Tex-Mex Restaurant
High marks, not the best Mexican but so much to like about this place. Homey feel, food is good and quick, good price, good service. Love the crispy tacos. Really really crispy.

Original Pancake House
Good pancakes, especially when done with lots of fruit on top, don't recommend the eggs benedict, not good at all. Always a line on the weekend midmorning. Parking can be a challenge over here where Lemmon splits, there's not a lot of side streets so if you park on the wrong side of Lemmon you've got to dodge traffic to get inside.

La Calle Doce
I've had hits and missed here. I think the house with its myriad of rooms is a neat place to visit. The food at lunch, which is mostly when I've gone, is good, not great. The last time I had the enchiladas verdes and thought they were good. There's probably better in town - Avila's - but at this price its fine and authentic.

Louie's
Everyone needs to give Louie's a try at some point. Dive spot in a bad neighborhood but hey the pizza rocks, beers cheap, TVs tuned to Dallas sports and the crowd is friendly.
What's not to love about it. -

Elbow Room
Great bar. Food wise its okay, pizza and so on. But this is a great place to hang out. Table shuffleboard in the back can keep me occupied for hours. There's a few pool tables. Drinks are cheap and there's always a place to sit.

Coal Vines
The pizza here is fine. Wine selection okay. When we came it was quiet, not too much of a 'scene', which was fine. Tables are small so the pizza hardly fits.
Overall not enthralled, I think Taverna does this style of food better. -

Cafe Express
I have to laugh at the last review...it's funny because its true.
But I will say that the hamburgers aren't half bad. It's not too greasy and the fries are okay. Not bad for a chain.

Sal's Pizza
For a while I was high on the place but I think the quality isn't all that great anymore. They make a big pizza, but its pretty bland and indistinguishable.
It's kinda like the pizza you can get in a bad mall food court.

Jimmy's Food Store
Absolutely the bomb.
I could spend a day wandering around this place and its only got like 5 aisles.
You must get the cuban sandwich. Then you must get a freshly made cannoli. Then you can leave with a half dozen more and wish that your wife doesn't eat them before you get to them.
Just thinking about them makes me want to get up and go get one...

Cretia's on McKinney
We've been a couple of times for brunch, which is where I think this place stands out. The brunch is as good as Breadwinners and its much less crowded. We've had very pleasant early afternoons on their patio when the weather is nice. Great coffee menu with options full of sugary extras.

Grotto Ristorante (Closed)
Grotto is okay, its a chain with predictable and salty food and very heavy Italian sauces.
Very noisy on a recent visit. The desert cart makes this a place worth coming to. It's piled with options and they swing it around table to table. -

Taverna
Great location in a walkable neighborhood. Excellent food - especially the specials (had a great fish a few weeks ago, really can't go wrong ordering the specials). The appetizers are very good, had calamari and brushetta recently.
The wine selection is very good and the waiters are helpful and knowledgeable with selections. -

Palomino European Bistro
I think Palomino's isn't a bad choice for a night out. Especially considering its close to the AAC. For a while they were offering a pretty good deal with an appetizer and main course for 20 bucks and free van drop off at the AAC before a Mavs or Stars game.
I like the spinach artichoke dip. Pretty good pizzas too. -

King's Noodles
This is our choice for authentic asian noodles. You can't go wrong here. Menus are primarily chinese but have translations.
Come on over for big big bowls of wet noodles!

LA Gourmet Pizza
I've used them when I've had a coupon but prefer pastazios. The pizza's are fine, but I think somewhat bland. Delivery was fast though. But there is better around.

La Madeleine
Not a bad meal, but have been going elsewhere more recently. I do like the french dip.
I think if I had too I may be able to subsist on just the tomato basil soup and white bread for a few weeks. It's remarkably addicting.

Pastazios New York Pizza
Overall my pizza and stromboli of choice right now. They do have an attitude on the phone when calling for delivery but the food makes up for it. Can't beat the stromboli with tons of meat - pepperoni and sausage, with veggies thrown in, all for about 6 bucks. That's what I'm talking about.

Panera Bread
Right now I'm liking their baked breads better than eatzis and central market. We got the three cheese bread for a dinner party a few weeks ago and it didn't disappoint. Love the hot sandwiches too. Coffee pretty good, not great.

Roti Grill
I think this place is above average for quick no hassle food. I do think its a little pricy for what you get. I'm a fan of the chicken masala and chicken curry. The masala isn't bad at all. My wife likes paneer but didn't think it was that great here. The naan is good.
Considering there isn't much other Indian around downtown I think its better than nothing and don't mind coming here when I get the urge for naan and curry. -

Rocco's Uptown Pizza & Pasta
Good place for reasonably priced pizza. Delivery is free, fast. Pizza is thin, new york style and good. I've not been disappointed.

micastio's review for:
Fearing's Restaurant
You will drop some g's coming to this place but the food is great.
The space itself is well done. Four different dining rooms, we were in the back one near the kitchen, so there was a very upbeat vibe with lots of activity as the waitstaff and cooks were working right near the diners. Our waiter looked like he was 14 and was wearing a pinstripe suit, but he was nice enough and the service was very attentive. Dean Fearing did come around and meet with most of the diners as the night went on, which was a nice touch. One odd thing was this guy whose sole job it seemed was to mingle with diners. He wasn't part of the waitstaff because I never saw him carry a dish, and he wasn't doing anything but mingle. He came over to our table at one point and said something like "so and so said to take real good care of you guys (he winked and pointed at us). You guys like shrimp tacos? I'll send some over." I looked at him and pretended to know what the heck he was talking about and said "Sure." Well, I ended up ordering a shrimp taco anyways for an appetizer, but the waiter obviously never got the message that this dude was supposed to "send some over" and our check still had it on...whatever. I think the guy soon figured out that I really wasn't anybody important and he spent the rest of the night chatting up the high rollers.
But back to the food. Appetizers - Shrimp taco was excellent, it was barbeque style and had a good spice to it. Also got the Tsukiji Market Hamachi. We mentioned to the waiter that we had just been in Tokyo but missed out on visiting Tsukiji, but he had no idea what we were talking about. The dish was very good, seared with spicy wasabi, delicious little pomegranate seeds on the side.
Main course - I decided on the barbeque filet and chicken fried maine lobster. I really loved this. The meat was perfect and the lobster had this really airy fried quality to it which I thought was great. It came with corn potatoes and an enchilada, which really weren't all that impressive. My wife had the buffalo tenderloin which was right on flavor wise and very tender. It came with butternut squash which she was a big fan of but I don't really remember.
Dessert was the butterscotch custard with apple fritters. The fritters rocked.
All in all its quite an expensive experience but worth it if you're into fancy dining. I think as far as quality it surpasses Craft and Stephen Pyles. The place has a more active vibe than Pyles.

None
If their prepared chef meals were a few bucks cheaper it'd be a steal. For now it's just something we do every now and then, a little too expensive to really be a good deal. The meatloaf is very good. The quesadillas and burritos just okay.
The sandwich line is great. Great great bread. The lasagna is also really good.

Dallas-based ENVY magazine going bankrupt
That would be sad if the only publication that didn't bash the city died.
