Forget the Green Line: DART needs to invest in more parking

well, those places north would have to JOIN dart for that to happen. maybe your employees would be better served if they moved out of foreclosure land and into the big city

DPD vice unit wages 50-year war against gay men

So is this saying we should stop arresting people for haivng sex in parks? Cause, um, no. I know the gays love Norbuck and Lawther Dr, but I don't need to see it and I'll keep calling the police every time I do.

Dallas Voice: Dallas' crime rate could be big mistake?

Unless you live in Fair Park or Bachman Lake areas you have almost no chance of being a victim of violent crime. If you don't live in an asphalt apartment complex you have almost no chance of being a victim of a property crime, and if you don't have 9 cars that you park on the street you have almost no chance of being the victim of an auto crime. The vast majority of Dallas is extremely safe. Dallas is #5 on the list of cities over 500k, and not on the top #25 list overall.

A quick google search shows a number of articles from a number of cities about that city being "#1 in crime." It's sensationalistic journalism that sells papers to suburban readers all over the country. The vast majority of people who bother to read the newspapers that report this garbage will never be a victim of a random violent crime or even know anyone who is the victim of a random violent crime.

    Kiddie dilemma in Uptown Dallas

    A) Your taxes pay for 22 city pools which are feee (maybe $1) and open to the public. If you think the kids got to North Dallas then they're probably close to Samuel-Grand or Grauwyler depending on which side of the tollway they're coming from.

    B) The North Dallas attendance zone is huge and includes much of the Bachman Lake area. I doubt those apartments are getting torn down any time soon.

Retired Highland Park lawyer arrested for drugs, maybe was dealing them, too

It's SMU's fault. They should have more on-campus housing.

New poll shows Dallas mayoral race coming down to a photo-finish

The prevailing wisdom is that contested races in southern Dallas will boost turnout for Oakley. But that wisdom is mostly coming from Lakewood liberals who don't care that Oakley is gay. Black voters in south Dallas do care and probably will just not vote instead of choosing between a gay and a Republican. So Oakley will need serious turnout from Lake Highlands Republicans who hate apartments more than liberals.

I think LH will split for Oakley, but that district will need to turnout more voters than the other districts north of Northwest Highway combined to beat Leppert. I don't see that happening. Leppert by 6.

Allen on top-5 list of cities where homes have ridiculous number of bedrooms

You're all stupid. Houses in Allen sell for under $100 a square foot. They aren't high end, they aren't mansions, they're big boxes. Big boxes that apparently have a bunch of bedrooms.

Construction begins on I-30 HOV lane from Dallas to Ballpark Way

I don't live in SW Dallas and I do get the stories closet to me-- thanks that's awesome. I realize that many areas overlap, hense my plethora of alternatives. But come on, it is not Southwest Dallas; nor is Shiloh Rd North Dallas. Just fix it!

Common on! Y'all are supposed to be "super local" why can't you label neighborhoods correctly? This isn't SW Dallas, in fact, if you click the SW Dallas link you can't even see I-30. This could be west Dallas or maybe Oak Cliff, you could go with the general 'south Dallas' too.

Taking the long view on battling crime in Dallas

Of the 217,218 people in Dallas with a Bachelor's degree or higher: "from '02 to '04. Of 450 homicide victims, less than 10 were college graduates."

That puts your odds at 1 in 21,720 of being killed in the city of Dallas if you have a BA or higher.

Someone (over 18) with less than a BA has odds of 1 in 1,861.

This despite that non-college graduates outnumber college graduates 3 to 1 in the city (of people 18 or older).

Pegasus News launches largest local elections database anywhere ever

you know what'd be helpful? if the names were listed by last name. also, would it be possible to sort by multiple factors? date would be really helpful to distinguish what went to another election cycle. and being able to arrange by contribution size would just be fun.

anyone else see that d'angelo hall donated to don hill? you read that dmn?

Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Ciga- *COUGH* - Ugh

Plano is in Texas, but if Dallas wanted to they couild ban smoking in your nightclub and your opinion wouldn't matter. Saudi's have more money invested in America than the citizens of say, South Dakota. But the Saudi's don't get 3 electoral votes.

But DC is right, your beating a dead horse. More American's live in places with smoking bans than without. If you want to be a hold out you need to move your nightclub to Balch Springs. But I doubt those right wingers are your clientel.

Yost's. Y'all live in Plano. Your opinion on the policies of Dallas matter as much as the illegal immigrant's do. AKA, none. You want to change something? Move inside the city limits, register to vote, start a petition, etc. Otherwise your just another old dude in cyberspace taking a break from looking at porn.

You smokers can argue online as much as you want, but you're losing the war. Get over it. It's so nice to go out in a real city and not smell like crud when you get home--your dry cleaning bill goes down, too. (Though I bet aging Lakewood hippies who sold out and live in Plano don't have dry cleaning as an issue)

Super Bowl economic impact is a mystery

"The city" didn't opt not to pursue the stadium, madame mayor made that choice. I think it's valid to question what contribution we should now be asked to make considering our lack of benefit. BTW Plano was never in the running for XLV, so I don't think 'your' city had much of a chance.
