Dallas Convention Center hotel should go on building's south side
I agree with putting it on the south side, but for different reasons. Every city that has built a convention center hotel has found it to be a black hole in the urban environment. There aren't people, just like with the Convention Center now. Downtown Dallas has enough of a problem with that. Putting it on the back side will limit the pull of the CC black hole.

Kansas City group lobbying for daily train service to Dallas
There is Amtrak service between Fort Worth and Dallas via the Texas Eagle, though this is also served by the TRE on every day except Sundays and holidays.
When my fiance rode Amtrak from Fort Worth to Norman, OK over Thanksgiving, we talked to the station attendant about this extension. I am all in favor of expanding train service, and I'd encourage anyone who uses the train to pitch in and help this campaign by writing letters - which is what the station attendant asked us to do.

Plano-based EnviroGLAS makes products from recycled broken glass
And they do a great job! My company's office was just remodeled, and the floor EnviroGLAS installed is beautiful. I definitely recommend them.

Tex-Mex restaurant Sol Irlandes moves into old Metropolitan space in downtown Dallas
So why is this item just now being posted? This restaurant has been open for months now...last I checked, that wasn't news. By the by, not criticizing the restaurant...I like the place, especially the fish taco wrap.

Let the Trinity toll road games begin
I have to take issue with the line in the first paragraph stating "The toll road would have four total lanes and a 35 mph speed limit." This is incorrect - the parkway, as mandated in the ordinance people will be voting on, will be restricted to 35 mph, but the toll road, as designed by NTTA et al, will be much larger and have a speed limit closer to 55 mph.

"Doo the Right Thing" dog poop awareness campaign picking up (giving off) steam in North Texas
It would help if whoever is responsible for those bag dispensers in the popular dog-walking areas around downtown would actually keep them stocked. I know it's just a convenience, and we should be bringing our own bags down, but don't put up a dispenser and then leave it empty for weeks at a time. Either stock them or take them down.

7-Eleven opens store in downtown Dallas
I would hardly call this "downtown" for any practical purposes. Yes, I know this area technically qualifies as downtown. But I doubt many people in the main residential core of downtown will use this store. 7-11 is a "convenience" store, yes? There is nothing convenient about the location of this store, except for office workers and residents of One Arts Plaza. I walked to this store from the Meyerson one night a month or so ago (it's been open for quite a while, just without fanfare)...and it definitely was not convenient. The store in Deep Ellum is closer to walk to for me (a downtown resident) than this one.

Are "outsiders" trying to block the Trinity petition drive?
This is very much true. I experienced it first-hand while collecting signatures last Saturday. They're paid, and many (if not all) are from out of town. And they're not afraid to admit it. Had a Trinity Commons board member blocking for a couple of hours that morning, but she was relieved by a paid blocker when they discovered no one on their payroll was covering that location. I've heard they may even be making $300 a day. With a force of about 20 blockers, that's easily $50K-$60K being spent just on these blockers.

Area Dallas chambers oppose TrinityVote petition
What a shock...the business entities in Dallas don't want the citizens to have a say in this issue.

Mansfield needs to name mascots too
Before anyone thinks it's racist, I had a friend who worked for Hereford ISD. "Whiteface" refers to a nickname for a Hereford cow. It has nothing to do with race.
