2009 Fair Park Fourth
I know that you don't control what happens at Fair Park, but I do feel that I was mislead by your news article. We are new to Texas, and my wife and I were looking for a 4th of July celebration that we could take our 5month daughter too. When we came across your article, about Fair Park we got really excited. More games!, More concessions! Free admission to all museums! we were sold. We load up and went. In your article you do mention"NOTE: Due to construction, the Esplanade fountain will not be operating, and the Hall of State, Aquarium and Planetarium will be closed. " Ok so only a few things are closed. First let's look at more concessions; four booths selling the same thing, plus maybe 2 other booths. glad we didn't go last year. More games; Now we walked up and down the whole area and only found 8 game booths, 3 of those were the same game. Unless you count palm reading, then there was a variety of 6 games. You stated that On Saturday, July 4, 2009, from 4:30 – 10 p.m., this family friendly... didn't see to many family things and the last IMAX show was at 3:30. The science and natural history museum was "open" but almost half of there exhibits were closed.
We were going into the cotton bowl and were told that since we had a stroller we had to go to the elevator, and wait in this line that was a least 30 minuets. When I asked if we could just carry the stroller up the stairs we were told no, we had to use the elevator. Right next to the elevator was a ramp up to the same spot as the elevator, can't use the ramp closed off. At this point I'm still trying to find out what makes this place Family friendly. Most people there that we saw had a stroller. Inside the cotton bowl was great, we enjoyed the pre firework show, and it was fun for our daughter, until the fireworks started, the music was so loud that it hurt our ears, and we couldn't understand what was playing. As soon as the music started she started screaming and we got out. What was cool was that we could still see the fireworks, on the lawn and she loved them, the booms didn't scare her at all and we could still hear the music. Being on the outside of the cotton bowl was much nicer and a better view of the fireworks. We have decided that if this year was supposed to be a better version of previous years of the official Dallas 4th of July we're not coming back. Just as a side note, not that you have any control at all. Soda's and water were $3 each for 16.9 oz. I understand the point is to make a profit, but there's a profit, and then there's greed.
