Denton's Wine Squared: "Most punk rock" wine bar

My husband and I moved to Denton in 2005 and immediately fell in love with Wine Squared. It's the best little wine bar in the Metroplex, equally enjoyable for wine connoisseurs and beginners. Brook's classes are lively and informative. She's a real expert, but not a snob about it. IT's worth the drive up here from Dallas or Fort Worth.

UPDATEDx2: Man's mother-in-law dies while Dallas officer detains him for running red light

What the news media and Dallas PD have failed to explain is just what was a Dallas policeman doing patrolling--no, staking out an intersection--in Plano? Is Plano paying Dallas cops to patrol for them? Are the taxpayers of Dallas paying for patrols in Plano? And if so, why is this allowed to happen, when Dallas needs every cop it can get on the street. Please, someone, explain why this guy was able to work outside his jurisdiction!

    Twit. Tweet. Twhat?

Mike--like you, I don't care if you're at Seven Eleven or there are 49 people in front of you in the TSA line at the airport--that kind of stuff is why I find Twitter annoying.

I was at the presentation yesterday and will say that it's the first one I've been to that provided any strategic uses for a business person or PR person considering Twitter. But I kept my mouth shut when the DMN guy said they don't do too many breaking news tweets a day. I had their breaking news feed coming to my phone for exactly 36 hours. Their idea of breaking news was teasing stories about developments in the Hayes Hall of Fame family dysfunction, a story about the top of the Bank of America building, and a story about a Koi fish rescue. That's not the kind of stuff I need cluttering up my phone text messages. The only useful tweet was the first one of the day, that gave the temperature and weather forecast for the day.

Like many things, I think content and Twitter user will evolve together, and we may find a use for it yet.

UPDATED: N9NE Steakhouse in Dallas' Victory Park appears to have closed Wednesday night

jtmbls said "It’s not like we invented pretense."

No, but Dallas has taken pretense and hubris to a higher level. Just like the arts district, the Calatrava bridges, and the Trinity River park project, Dallas wants all the trappings of an oh-so-sophisticated city, but really doesn't know what to do with it. Dallas wants everything to be "WORLD CLASS" when it (government, developers, promoters) should just be putting together a fine city for it's citizens. Make this city viable for the residents, that's what a real world class city does.

The Bridge: Holes in the system

Typical Dallas approach to everything regarded as ugly, imperfect or non-world class. Dallas doesn't want to help homeless people, they just want to get them out of the way so people can't see them. Houston did a much better job dealing with the homeless--the government stayed out of it and let Star of Hope and SEARCH and other large, successful nonprofits do the job. While there are still homeless in Houston, you don't have the panhandler problem there that you have in downtown Dallas. Dallas would rather spend money on fancy bridges over the river than bridges to help people.
