Tesar on Top Chef makes chowder that's like a "hug from the ocean"

This girl from The Grape hasn't impressed and, frankly, I question why she's even on the show. Since I've never eaten at her restaurant, I can't comment on the "true" nature of her food, but she's not representing such a lauded place very well. My wife tells me I'm a great cook but I'm not going to try out for Top Chef to prove it. I wonder if that's what happened to her.

And as to this elimination challenge, that had to be the stupidest challenge I've ever seen. No knifes? <em>Really?</em> I didn't realize Top Chef is turning into some kind of Japanese game show.

    And the flaming begins...

I mean we just HAVE to belittle and berate the Christians now a days, even if we don't agree with them, don't we?

    I mean, <em>REALLY</em>?

Restaurant review: Urban Rio Cantina & Grill fails its pedigree, location, and promise

Restaurant reviews, especially those of late on PN, should be taken with a rather large cube of salt. It is a shame that most of these reviews have become Yelp-like in nature in that one visit will define the absolute worth of a place. Everyone is entitled to a bad day and unless that one visit you had involved getting ripped off by the waiter and thrown out the front door by the manager, there should be some kind of <del>journalistic research</del> baseline number of visits before you call a restaurant a failure....my opinion anyway...I have the salt ready.

Allen swaps in flashing yellow arrows at protected left turn lights

Protected arrows have been in Texas for decades. The old method was to show both the green ball and green arrow which would switch to a yellow arrow, then no arrow at all while leaving the green ball constant. In an approach to save money (because it has one fewer light bulb and, I'm sure, it was easier to program), they switched to these flashing yellow arrow signals. Now these are easier to be confused with since it will go from solid yellow to flashing yellow quickly and only the sign will explain the difference.

Perhaps people do not get the "flashing" part so they see a yellow arrow and assume they are protected? Or is it the old fasion people just keep trying to beat others through the intersection and end up causing the accident?

Stick it to the chicken: SMU group seeks removal of campus Chick-fil-A

"...the criminalization of homosexuality, and the support of the infamous Uganda “kill gays” bill."

Distorting of facts and at worst, completely false statement. http://www.snopes.com/politics/sexual...

As to "actively support anti-gay initiatives," this is a biased viewpoint. At no time has anyone from Chick-Fil-A ever said they are anti-gay. EVER. If someone does not agree with a homosexual lifestyle, that does not make them anti-gay. If Chick-fil-a is in fact anti-gay, they would be in violation of the law. Prove that there is not one homosexual person currently working for the company or if there was ever one fired for being gay and then that would be fact.

What do you think of Hank Williams Jr.'s rant about gays and Obama?

Far as I'm concerned, I don't understand the fascination on the media's end with giving celebrities any attention at all. Just because they happen to have a soap box doesn't mean anyone actually cares. Most people are center aligned and only those on the extreme left or right get "riled up." Most people don't care and most people think of folks like Williams Jr. as simply full of themselves.

I'd prefer it if journalists actually reported news and gave opinionated pieces about actual issues, not giving attention to folks like this.

Glenn Beck said treatment on American Airlines flight made him feel "subhuman"

Jilin, either you've never been in customer service or you actually think if you are working with someone who is purchasing something from you, you can treat them however you want. Either way, your comment sure does seem as though "customer service" is not a familiar concept.

"The customer is always right" means that even when they are wrong, you as the employee work to still treat them not as though they are simply misinformed and work to help them understand what is correct. Employees are to give customers the utmost respect and treat them as though they are the only person who mattered at that moment. Customers are not supposed to earn respect; they are supposed to be treated on the highest levels from the start, even if you know who they are.

Even if Beck was mistreating this attendant, it is not for the attendant to take it out on the customer; his supervisors, meaning the officers of that plane, step in and let Beck know what he is doing is being disruptive and could face federal consequences. That attendant should not have changed his service methods because of his feelings.

Glenn Beck said treatment on American Airlines flight made him feel "subhuman"

AA may not have been <em>directly</em> responsible as it is very possible this person disagrees with Beck politically. However because AA trained this individual and AA employes this individual, it <strong>is</strong> an AA issue. No matter how much you disagree with the opinions of this man, it does not justify treating him this way. Beck is the customer and should be treated as anonymous as possible. The AA employee was not performing his job duties as assigned and should therefore be reprimanded for it. And, of course, Beck should be apologized to and compensated...

...provided any of this is true.

WFAA’s Dale Hansen says women don’t belong at Augusta National Golf Club

So does that mean school academies that are not co-ed are inherently bigots/racists/discriminatory as well? Should dorm buildings not have separation of gender? What about the weight loss "club" known as Curves? Are they discriminatory towards men?

There is a point to having clubs that are men or women only and Dale's point about changing behavior is in some ways valid. Women can be women and men can be men without sexism. So while his point may not be politically correct, the point of a club admitting only one gender should be viewed based on intent.

Check out photos of Allen High's $60 million football stadium

How many schools would that have built instead to lower teacher-student ratio? How many books would that money have replaced? How many iPads + ebooks would that have purchased if you wanted to go high tech?

I know high school football is big in Texas but I'll never understand this. And this, I guarantee, was not for the students at all; this was for the adults.

    Priorities...

Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day draws huge crowds in Rockwall

"It is hate when profits are donated to organizations who actively lobby the federal government to not condemn a Ugandan law that calls for the execution of homosexuals, tries to "pray away the gay" with unscientific bs, etc etc. "

As to the "pray away the gay," there is no hate in that. While a bit more extreme in the Christian approach, it would still require a willing participant. Either way, I don't see hate.

As to the Uganda, I've read various reports on this, one suggesting the protest of the bill was not to remove but to rewrite. So far, I cannot find much in the way of "proof." Snopes.com agreed... http://www.snopes.com/politics/sexual...

And to the company they donated to, Exodus International, they had since come out saying they "felt duped" and had since recanted.

Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day draws huge crowds in Rockwall

"I'll never get the hypocracy of Christians. It's fine for them to lambast homosexuals all day long and rationalize it with Bible verses but when the left points out such bigotry, it's an attack on their freedom of speech and personal liberties. Huh? "

Yea...the hypocrisy of Christians. Never mind the hypocrisy of non-Christians who hate on Christians for what they call "hate." Don't see the bigotry in that?

I don't mean to throw out the fallacy but still, this has been a complete non-issue since at no time has the BUSINESS of Chick-fil-a ever been discriminatory, have their practices been discriminatory, nor have they ever once been accused of anything even remotely discriminatory. And thanks in part to other overreactions towards the CEO's <em>opinion</em>, yesterday was a bigger non-issue than the first. I guess we'll throw tomorrow in as another non-issue as well...

What a world we live in where your opinion can no longer be shared freely because of who might disagree.

Why Trader Joe's coming to Dallas-Fort Worth is not another In-N-Out

"the presence of scripture on a burger wrapper is unusual, is it not? that makes it worthy of mention. in this context, it serves as a symbol of the culture at In-N-Out, just as a Hawaiian shirt serves as a symbol of the culture at Trader Joe's"

What is a "symbol of culture" when it comes to business? Is that some kind of new term? TJ's uniform is a hawaiian shirt just as much as the red apron with the big pin is at In-N-Out as much as those polo shirts at McDonald's. That does not promote any sort of culture of the business. Think of it this way: if tomorrow they changed and forced all associates to wear suits, does that change who TJ's is? Absolutely not. It might in your judgment but it would be far from the truth.

As to the scripture, no I don't consider it unusual. I'm not sure why it should be. Brandon probably says your position more bluntly in that perhaps you believe that too? My question to you both would be why do you care? What a private citizen/business believes should not be any of your concern. That is well within their 1st amendment right to do so. They are not government, they are not associated with government outside of the taxes they pay, and there is no such concept of separation of church and business/person. To even think that there should be is, at the very least, unconstitutional.

I agree it sure does seem as though pegasus news has it out for In-N-Out. We get it, you don't like them as well as some of the others here. But this article does seem like pulling drama out of left field (like the point of mentioning scripture; so what if they do?).

Whole Foods Market takes first pre-emptive strike at Trader Joe's

It's what all the major grocers have been doing for quite some time. You think the "Everyday Value" Walmart brand wasn't a copy? I'm sure there are a ton of business reasons behind that...

While TJ moving in might be a good thing for competition, I honestly don't believe that WF has much to fear since I don't believe they are targeting the same kind of consumer.

As to Tony's comment, it appears you have joined the media in taking comments out of context. http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2009/08/0...

Same comment but from a different perspective: he acknowledges WF does, in fact, sell "junk food," or rather unhealthy, high calorie snacks. That does not mean the food they sell is junk, which you were implying means every item in the store is inferior in some nature. Just like with any other grocery store, they do sell plenty of healthy options, possibly more so than most with the more organic focus.

I could be mistaken, but is TJ a holistic grocer? Obviously they are trying to be local but will their shelves be stocked with as much natural and organic products as WF? If so, then I can see the competition aspect. If not, then this is comparing apples to oranges. Might as well compare Aldi to WF.

"Your response was pretty petty and not needed here." My opinion...no one said you had to agree.

Designing Women had intelligence to it and didn't have to de-evolve into the overblown stereotypes. It made fun of them as background while the women were actually interesting. GCB didn't have that; the whole premise was to rely on making fun of those stereotypes (again, over the top) and forgo character development. I've never read the book so I can't comment on that but there is a reason this show was canceled, especially when you look at how the ratings for each show continually spiraled downward.

"90% of network programming is stupid and pointless..." and this falls under that category. GCB was not funny, not well acted, and not even close to being intelligent. I didn't even mind the whole Christian satire aspect but this was so over the top it just felt like I was watching one of those housewife shows (and those shows are bottom of the barrel...along with every other reality show).

No...this petition I think should go under the <em>"Really?"</em> category...and should have been featured in the new movie "God Bless America."

Whataburger introduces Whatachick'n Bites chicken nuggets

    <em>So young, so annnggrrrrry...</em>

"Whataburger taste-tested the Bites and were told that the tasters "could taste the difference in the high-quality real chicken as well as the crispy golden brown breading." Really, is that so hard, to be able to distinguish between chicken and breading? "This tastes like real chicken – real meaty," said one taster. Meaty as opposed to "bready," which is, one assumes, how they described the breading."

I don't think the point there was to taste the difference between the chicken and breading but rather the chicken Whataburger uses vs. what others use and the breading that Whataburger uses vs. what other use. Without seeing the rest of the actual press release, that's how I read it, anyway. It is poorly worded, however, I seriously doubt the comparison was within the same product.
