"What You Are Not Supposed to Know About 9/11: Building 7 - Gone in 7"
Sorry, was keeping the explanation at the level of the 'science' used for proof. Even nanothermite would not be the substance of choice for what the theorists claim. Choice between arguing online over ultrasonification and/or "the government's" access to much more effective explosives or shrugging and accepting the futility of the first choice: I'm taking the second option.

Science, anyone?
So, high levels of thermite were found in the ash - considering what thermite IS, that is not surprising to find when large sections of an aluminum plane basically vaporise in a steel (main ingredient: iron) building. As far as being a major contributing factor before or to the explosions, thermite can be unpredictable to start, is much more an incendiary than an explosive, and would not be the 'explosive' of choice for anyone needing precision timing.

Faced with overwhelming demand, Dallas-based Pizza Hut finally relents and offers "natural" pizzas
Pizza's are easy, just time consuming. I make my own pizza dough and sauce, know what goes in, and don't suffer the typical heartburn afterwards. Yes it takes longer, but costs less and, IMHO, tastes better. =)

Rail system for entire Dallas-Fort Worth area could be on its way
Take a train .... on a Sunday?!
Pfft
Simply everyone knows Sunday is when you're supposed to burn your God given fossil fuels to drive your SUV to church then across town to lunch so you can show off your fancy clothes to a whole new crowd of people and afterwards take a meandering, long leisurely drive for a few hours at 15 MPH under the speed limit. God didn't kill all those dinosaurs for us to not use the oil, d'uh.
And who would need to take a train after leaving a bar late? Really, now, it's not like anyone has been drinking while they were there.

George Bush's post-presidency return to Dallas will be pretty cushy
sigh
He's moving into Preston Hollow here in Dallas. Yes, 'that' Preston Hollow.
That whole "ranch" thing was to make him appear more good ol' boy Texan - just "a regular guy" not some rich kid with connections. He's afraid of horses and only bought the ranch when he thought of running for President. Connecticut born and Midland/Houston reared just doesn't have the same panache as "a cowboy from Crawford".
As far as money, seems his 'little lady' just signed a rather lucrative book deal that should make up for any insufficiencies of income, just in case oil, ahem, Doesn't skyrocket in price again.
Anyone interested in some fine Arizona beach front property?

Rawlins - well, as a hetero female your opinion that Michelle Obama is "hot" doesn't really sway me as much as some may like.
I would be more likely to give my vote to someone, anyone (diehard liberal or gung ho conservative) who would get the gumption to pull themselves erect and state "I stand for this, period and I don't give a damn what the polls say". However, since I"ve been of voting age (and even before) this country has yet to see such a candidate. Instead we have the Carters, the Clintons, the Bushes, the Gores, the McCains, the people who hedge their bets that the America populace is emotionally and educationally ignorant and therefore voting based on fear or idealism or both.
As a geek, I hold even less belief in ANY electronic voting mechanisms. (And people thought paper ballots could be manipulated!! HA!!)
As it stands, my voice, when November comes around, will not be heard because this country is blindly tied into an archaic two party system that long ago stopped listening to the people - those same people who accept this assinity because they think they longer have a choice. Show me, in the Constitution, that ONLY two parties should/could/would speak for us all. Too many of us decide our candidates due to one party or the other. I'm not a registered anything, and I seriously doubt that will ever change.
I'm still going to vote, that is my duty. I just hold no illusions that it will mean a tinker's damn. ... Sigh.

Tack, friend. I appreciate the sentiment.
Homeslice? Um, .. c'mon, you ARE over 14, right? <g>
As far as barking up the wrong tree... pray tell, what other main trunked, distinctive crowned perennial woody plant should I be barking?
Is the candidate wearing his mystical, magical enameled US of A pin on his lapel? Is his hand over his heart during (not the pledge but) the singing of the national anthem? Is he basing his credentials on being held captive?
I.
Don't.
Care.
Does he want to keep us in an unwin-able war in a sovereign nation when the true threat is a non-nationalized idealized belief system? Has he changed horses midstream to try to catch the moderately right vote? Did he vote for FISA? Does he understand the difference between Shia and Sunni? Does he know that Chezkoslavakia is no longer?
OK, those I care about - just wish the candidates cared as much.
I appreciate your stance that the origin was a "funny" article. However, if you would so indulge me, can you concede that we've elected leaders for similar or even lesser inanities? And that possibly we should expect, nay, demand better?</g>

Hence the use of "supposedly". <g>
Perhaps I should have chosen a better article lead in, yet this was what was available at the time.
Should we, honestly, chose our leader because they have a "nice smile" (Jimmy Carter) or because we'd "like to have a beer" with them (George W. Bush) or they may be the "better kisser" (see the article above)? Or should we, conceivably, perhaps, maybe, possibly choose the leader of our country based on the actual requirements and duties of the job and the credentials to do said job of the potential candidates?
Forgive me, again, but is this Pegasus News or is it Pegasus "Let's All Just Fart Around And Play Our Violins While Civilization As We Know It Crashes And Burns Around Us"?
I happen to think that PegNews is doing a fabulous job by bringing local news to the attention of those of us who otherwise may not be aware of what is happening in our own back yard. Sincere kudos to every one of the hard working staff - you should all ask for substantial raises in pay. That said, however, with that also comes the onus of occasionally carrying the burden of covering more general or non-localized actual mattering news.
As a very opinionated poster (who is thankfully NOT a reporter - you guys have too many hobbles), I grabbed the opportunity to address an issue that rubs the tender area under the saddle blanket raw. If this is the wrong forum, inform me and forgive me (yet again) and I'll rant elsewhere.</g>

Eh, yes, it's just a humorous article, but it's also a symptom of just how far off the supposedly educated voting populace views the election of the leader of this country.
Forgive me for being rather pedantic, but this whole media smörgåsbord which focuses on everything except what really matters just gets under my skin. Perhaps I live in a dream world, but it would be extremely refreshing to see intelligent conversation concerning the actual powers and rights of the most exalted elected position in this country instead of the latest imbecilic drivel.

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.
He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.
(Left to the reader where the above is stated.)
Please, where in the above are health care, mortgages, abortion, or KISSING listed??
Before the complaints start, I DO, completely, understand that a presidential candidate's views on such (ok, maybe not the kissing part) will carry some weight towards the Supreme Court Justice(s) they may or may not nominate. But, for the sake of fluffy ducklings and rainbow clouds, can someone answer me WHY it matters if the potential First Wife bakes good cookies or if the potential Commander in Chief may or may not be a good kisser? Or if they wear magical jewelry adornments?
Can we, please (begging here) institute NOTA (http://nota.org/ ) on a national scale? State by state until we all have some choice beyond the lesser of two evils. Please? Someone? Anyone? Everyone?
Wandering off now to the forgotten land of true moderates who happen to actually, you know, Believe in that old piece of paper/parchement.

#1 reason dating websites suck
I met my husband at work. I was, nominally, his boss. Neither of us were the least bit interested in starting a new relationship at the time, but Cupid decided to use brick bats and 2x4's instead of his usual arrows so.... We worked together another year after starting dating, no one had an issue as I was as hard, or even harder, on him than any of the rest of my crew. We both left that company to further our careers at our choice, not theirs. We've been together over a decade and still make a pretty darn good team.
Do what you love. Open your eyes. Keep your head. Open your heart. Take the chance. Make the jump.
My view on online dating? Even though I know of quite a few successes, I also know someone who has at least four completely different personas on each of the three most major dating sites. (Said I know them, didn't say I liked them.)
BTW, I'm a completely unapologetic geek who has had a love affair with technology since I was a wee bairn sneaking into my dad's workshop to repair the latest technological gadget I'd experimented on. Yes, the internet has allowed us to meet people we would have most likely never met before yet at the same time it allows us to be whoever, or whatever fantasy we prefer, to be.
Online may be an easy way to sit, safely ensconced in your own home, and present your best face - but, so is the person on the other end. Give me face to face any time. The subtle body language, the tone of the voice along with the set of the eyes ....
Caveat Emptor.

Uncle Barky provokes debate about local TV news
"Because the moment we pitch a press release with no news in it is the moment we become a mockery.” Jeff Crilley (Quoted out of context - I'm not a reporter, so Pppffftt.)
So, (no aspersions at all towards you, Jeff) does that mean that all the coverage of Paris Hilton, Brangelina's twins, or the like mean that mainstream media has become a mockery? Or at best a pathetic farce? Many of us laity have understood it to be that way for many, many long years now.
To the victor go the spoils. In the modern field of viewers vs "mainstream" "news" "reporters", just who, precisely (outside of the ma$$ive money moguls), is actually victorious?

Man shoots suspected copper thief in Garland
NP, Rick.
Although I most likely should have thrown "alleged" in there a couple of times and dropped "son" off of Mr Sheu in a couple places, (then again, I'm not a reporter and am simply stating my opinion,) but.... the gist remains. I know far too many peace officers, and small business owners, to have let this go un-responded to. The "news" seems to deal more with sound bytes and ratings and less with actualities every day. Sigh.
The dogs bark, yet the caravan passes on.

Man shoots suspected copper thief in Garland
Officers per 1,000 residents in Garland: 1.52 - or - roughly one officer for every 662 people (depending on which census you find and use.) Of course, not every officer is always on duty (they have to sleep sometimes, too) and not every officer is on the street during their whole shift what with bringing people in for booking, etc. etc. (doing the other part of their job, so it goes) so it's not like every officer only has to look over a flock of 662 sheep during his shift.
Add to that the fact that copper stealing has become a rather lucrative business for many less scrupulous people - and a very expensive loss to their victims. It's not just the loss of the copper, it's the damage done to the units and the increase in insurance, plus the possible loss of revenue while waiting for repairs. In June alone, Polytechnic High School's air-conditioning units were stripped of copper, causing $132,000 in damage.
The roof where the questionable confrontation occurred was that of a business that had already been hit before. Insurance may cover the damage, but then you can pretty much bet your sweet bippy that the rates will increase to compensate. Small businesses can rarely easily absorb large uncalled for necessary expenses. And yes, I would consider having to replace my AC unit more than once in a single year due to some selfish thieving ninny an UNcalled for necessary expense - especially during high summer in Texas.
Should the police camp an officer on each private citizen's roof that has a vulnerable AC unit? Of course not. And, ah, guess what? It's not their job, anyway. Would the police have gotten there in time to catch the copper thief in the act? Well, the track record so far against them isn't that successful, even with live-time call-ins.
Did Mr. Sheu's son aim specifically to kill? Does anyone but he really know? Did he feel threatened by someone sneaking up on a roof they had no business being on? (I would.) It's not too far a leap to go from someone wishing to do harm to your livelihood to someone who may quite be willing to do harm to yourself. The police don't seem to have an issue with how the incident happened and I'd guess that they probably have a slightly better idea of the full circumstances than we do. Until more comes out, all the chest pounding is so much speculation.
Considering how hard it is for many small businesses to keep their nose above water in this economy, and how much of their entire life savings most small business owners have tied up in their company, saying that the family's livelihood may very well have been threatened by another loss and insurance hit is not too hard to imagine.
The guy didn't go out cruising the streets looking for suspicious looking people to randomly shoot at. He sat, on the roof of his father's business, defending his father's property. NO ONE BUT HE knows what he was thinking, how he felt when someone DID show up, what made him pull the trigger, and more importantly, HOW HE FEELS NOW that he has taken another human's life. Not something most non-hardened criminals find easy to sleep with.
Personally, I'm just not all that torn up over the selfish thief (who, by his actions, obviously didn't care about any consequences to the hard working people relying on that business for their daily bread) getting shot. I am, however, saddened that he died from the wound and greatly saddened that Mr. Sheu's son will have to live with this horrific incident for the rest of his life.
