    White Rock Coffee

I've never actually been there, but they had a stand set up at the new White Rock farmers market and I bought an iced Mocha from them and it was really fantastic and refreshing! Also the two girls at the stand were so friendly to me and they told me all about the cold-brewing technique they use for the espresso and how they roast their own beans. I live in Richardson, but I'm definitely making the drive to visit there soon!

    EatGreenDFW Culinary Farm Tour

Awesome, I just bought sausage today from a stand selling meats/eggs from JuHa Ranch at the new White Rock farmers market. We used it to make a German dish of New Potatoes, Green Beans and sausage for lunch - and it was fantastic!

Pretty sure this show is August 15th, not August 5th.

Arlington could require permit to operate off-site Cowboys game parking

I have to agree with Avi about one thing: "It is NOT the responsibility of any neighborhood to support a business in its midst."

But I also agree with jtmbls's statement: "It is not your goals that I find offensive, it’s your tactics."

Avi, I think a lot of the people who currently dislike you and ridicule you would actually support your causes if you went about things a bit more diplomatically and with more decorum.

Two more points I'd like to state (even though this is not the right article to post them on):

1.) I don't think telling Avi to just move somewhere else if he doesn't like it is a valid argument point. People should have the right to live wherever they want and not be affected too much by the other people who work and live and play in that area. For example: we can call the cops on our neighbors in any suburb when they throw loud parties. It's just that in Avi's situation, his neighbors are bars (that may or may not be legal) that throw parties every single weekend and invite several hundreds of people.

2.) I don't think LG is ever going to die as a bar destination spot. The economy is going to bounce back and it's still closer, safer, and easier than downtown Dallas.

    Paesano's Ristorante

I ate here once probably 5 years ago and I still remember the Tiramisu as being the best I've ever had. I think the difference was that it was a white chocolate Tiramisu. Damn, I'm not sure why I've never been back!!!

    Jeng Chi

This is my very favorite place to get dumplings! The chicken dumplings are awesome, but the veg ones are tasty too. Also, they have this really yummy side dish that I think they call 'chive pancakes' - I highly recommend that you order it if you do go to Jeng Chi.

Proposition One victory reinforces my decision to move to Dallas

Pavel, I used to use public transportation to get everywhere and it's not that bad once you get used to it. The only problem is that it takes 2 hours to get anywhere... no matter if it would have been a 10 minute drive or a 30 minute drive. But I know that they are adding in two new rail lines which might improve things a bit - http://www.dart.org/about/expansion/e...

As for the hotel: meh, I live in Richardson.

    Rahr & Sons Brewery

Everyone here is super nice and friendly. Not to mention the gazillion types of beer too! I normally rate beer as one of my least favorite alcoholic beverages... but there is something different and better about Rahr beer that makes it really enjoyable to drink.

    Astronautalis

Holy crap, Astronautalis was awesome! I was at a show to see The Paper Chase and I was completely blown away by Astronautalis! The best way I can describe him is a satirical rapper. But don't be turned off by that just because you don't like rap because it's not true rap and he put on a terrifically entertaining show. I would highly recommend that even if you don't know who the heck he is, you should go see him whenever he's playing near you!

The Paper Chase / Astronautalis / Valina

The Paper Chase was awesome, as usual!

I only heard two songs by Valina and they were enjoyable, but the real showstopper was Astronautalis. It turned out to be a one-man show and the best way I can think of to describe him is a satirical rapper... which doesn't really describe him properly at all. He was so damn entertaining though, I couldn't stop laughing during his entire set! He didn't take himself too seriously and put on a hell of a show, and it worked out really well because everyone in the venue seemed to really be into it even though he was playing in between two rock bands.

Also, I was actually old enough to buy booze at the show this time which realllly improves any live music experience. :)

Parking near Lower Greenville in Dallas about to get worse

So does anyone know if all the streets within the BelmontNA neighborhood that aren't specifically listed on the RPO map (like Lewis street) are still up for parking grabs? Also, does anyone know if the two self-park lots on Alta near Summit are free or not? And where the heck was the old Whole Foods located? Personally, I think Lower Greenville is kinda slimy and lame, but it's good when there's nothing better to do.

Richardson City Council bans smoking in most businesses, including restaurants

I'm not a smoker and I actually dislike cigarettes and the tobacco industry on many levels, but if Richardson actually does pass a smoking ban that forces the closure of my favorite hookah bar (Habibi's)... then I'm officially taking up smoking and I'm going to smoke in as many public places as possible. Because no matter how much I personally dislike the habit - it's not the government's place to dictate to a privately run business what it's clientele can or cannot do inside of it as long as no harm is done to innocent bystanders (clearly, this view-point is not limited to just cigarette smoking, but since that's the current hot-button issue, I won't expound on all the other things that shouldn't be federally mandated)! You can pry the filthy cigarette from my cold dead cancer ridden fingers, or in other words: Give me liberty or give me death (...from cancer)!

(forgive me for bastardizing two quotes in a row)

    Dunn Bros Coffee

Pros: Really cool laid back atmosphere, live music on some nights, they're open later than Starbucks, they have free wifi for anyone who buys a drink, and they also have computer stations for people who don't bring their laptops.

Cons: Every single coffee beverage I've ever gotten there tastes burnt. :(

North Texas Tollway Authority OKs electronic toll collection for Bush Turnpike, postpones Dallas Tollway

My coins are legal tender, DAMNIT! Yes, it will make the toll roads minutely faster, but it forces me to either give the toll authority my private credit/debit card information to link to a damn toll account that they charge against my license plate -OR- I have to send in a check which requires yet more money for the stamp, envelope, and the checks themselves (which also contain your personal banking information)!!!!!!!

Just to spite the NTTA, I'm going to start using 40 pennies again like I used to. They can take their "no pennies" sign and SHOVE IT!

And it's all beside the point anyway because I feel that toll roads shouldn't exist AT ALL! The gas tax was specifically implemented for road creation/maintenance/repair and it would be more than enough to pay for all current and future roads if it weren't for the fact that the money from the gas tax is constantly rerouted to other non-transportation related things. So this is double taxation! And to add insult to injury: the companies contracted for the designing/building/maintaining of these tollroads are not even American companies!! PLUS: The TxDOT is getting $1.2 billion in stimulus money to build new roads and I believe most if not all is going to TOLL road projects. That equates to TRIPLE taxation: our federal tax dollars for the stimulus, our misused gas tax money, and the tolls we pay each time we use the road from here to infinity! This is SUCH BS, nothing gets me as riled up as toll roads do. Read this following article which explains far more eloquently why toll roads are BAD: http://www.motorists.org/tolls/home/w...

Final thought: do you reeeeeally want some toll authority snapping photos of your license plate wherever you go? I'm not a paranoid nutjob (despite all evidence to the contrary)... but this just seems downright unwise.

    Fair To Midland

oh man, I saw these dudes live and I've never experienced anything quite like it. The singer danced like what I can only describe as an epileptic frenzy, and it seemed like he was singing with his whole being and at the end of their long set he was utterly spent and was laying on the ground and they almost had to drag him offstage. I had never heard of them before and had gone to the show to see a different band, but that performance sure made me an instant fan. The recorded songs on the albums are great, but they dont really do the live versions any justice at all.

Drivers and mechanics with Bimbo Bakeries in Fort Worth join Teamsters

Unions turn bad situations into disasters. If the work environment at a company is already bad enough to prompt someone to want to join a union for protection and help bargaining for basic rights/pay/benefits/safety, then it's almost undoubtably already past saving and not worth working for at all. I speak from experience having worked for a terrible, corrupt, demoralizing, and immoral company who had an even more terrible, corrupt, demoralizing, and immoral union embedded within it's workforce. SCUM of the earth.

Questionable ad of the day: Burger King's "SpongeBob Got Back"

"As if this guy wasn't creepy enough to begin with... "

Agreed! A buddy of mine came to our Halloween party in a Burger King costume and he won the scariest costume award unanimously. And do you remember seeing those commercials where a person wakes up to find the King in their room staring silently at them and holding out some breakfast food to them?

    I do
