Look, Trulucks has really good seafood. I wouldn't say that landlocked Dallas is a hotbed for spectacular seafood, but if you're craving fish, you probably can't go wrong here. But for me, Trulucks is all about the dessert.
Not typically a fan of chocolate cake, I can't say enough good things about Trulucks' magnificent slice of choclate cake, which is just slightly bigger than my old apartment in Boston. It's luscious but, remarkably, not too rich, which can be a problem when you realize you've just inhaled your entire slice. Then there's the carrot cake. I hate carrot cake. But did I eat my entire slice and then lick the plate? Sure did. Last but not least - the choclate bag. The chocolate bag is the reason tastebuds were created. Imagine: a chocolate mold in the shape of a brown paper bag, filled with poundcake, a ton of fresh berries, and whipped cream. They'll set this creation on your table and let you oooh and ahhh before chopping it up into a beautiful mess that you'll shove into your mouth faster than you should. The chocolate bag is not just dessert - it is a glorious experience.

I've never been to Green Papaya for dinner, but since my office is at the corner of Oak Lawn and Maple, it's one of my favorite joints to hit for lunch. Their spring rolls with peanut sauce used to be a favorite of mine, but they weren't as good as usual on my last visit. My current favorite meal is #15, Hu Tieu Xao Tofu (Rice Noodles with Tofu, Chinese Broccoli, Bean Sprouts, Eggs and Green and White Onions). They bring the sauce on the side, so you can add as little or as much as you like. Their portions are huge, and no matter how hungry I am, I can never finish my lunch. Oh, and their ice tea is perfect on a hot day.
Green Papaya is tiny on the inside and the seating on their porch is tight. They have fans and misters, but it is still pretty warm out there if the sun is out. I'd recommend getting there before the lunch crowd to snag a table in the shade, and I'd avoid GP is you have a big group.

If the Quadrangle didn't seem like such a beating to deal with, I'd go to Dream Cafe for lunch weekly. If Dream Cafe was located within 5 miles of my house, I'd go there every Sunday morning.
Instead, I end up visiting Dream Cafe only on special occasions that call for a relaxing brunch in their sunny courtyard. Their migas, with veggie sausage, are terrific. However, my favorite thing on the menu, despite my hatred for former Red Sox manager Grady Little, is the Grady's omelet. It's basically just an omelet with herbed cream cheese, lox, spinach, and tomato, but it tastes like so much more.
The food is fresh, they offer plenty of veggie options, and their portions are fair. One tip: even if the wait is longer, don't settle for a table indoors. There's nothing better than relaxing with a nice, big breakfast on their shady, tree lined lawn on a warm day. The service can be shaky on a busy Sunday morning, but that's when you just need to put on your sunglasses, sip your coffee and be glad you're not somewhere less awesome...like church.

Once upon a time I lived just down the street from Moni's. I passed by a thousand times without noticing it, until one day a former coworker who grew up in Arlington told me that her family ate at Moni's regularly. We gave it a try, and it certainly did not disappoint.
Moni's is everything you want in an Italian restaurant. It's run by a woman that employees and customers alike refer to as Mama. It feels like a family run Italian joint in the heart of NY more than a place stuck into one of the million wasted stripcenters in DFW. Their food, served in healthy portions, is tasty and affordable. No, not affordable - it's a downright steal.
All meals start off with a huge basket of buttery, bready goodness. Their salads are fantastic as all come with their house dressing. (My former coworker who recommended Moni's once told me her family has convinced Mama to sell them their house dressing in bulk. I thought she was insane, but now realize they were spot on.) My favorite is the Country Salad, which comes loaded with more vegetables than I can eat in one sitting. As for the entrees, I never tasted one I didn't like at Moni's. My favorite was, if I remember the name correctly, Cappellini de Moni's: pasta and vegetables in a tremendous pink sauce.
So let's see: great atmosphere, terrific food, and ridiculously affordable prices. What more could you want?
Oh., I know. Did I mention Moni's is BYOB?

Pasands is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Dallas area, no question. It isn't the fanciest, it isn't the flashiest, but it is certainly the tastiest.
I've been for the weekend lunch buffet ($10 per person), and dinner and my boyfriend, who works near there, goes for the weekday lunch buffet ($8 per person). All are excellent. Prices are extremely affordable and you will leave feeling stuffed.
The meals start with a gigantic complimentary basket of naan delivered to table, a sign of good things to come. I've never had a dish I didn't like at Pasands: the vegetable tikka masala is my favorite but all are good. Chicken 65, Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer, Chicken Saag, Vegetable Curry, Masala Dosa, Dahl Makhani, Chicken Vindaloo...all delish.

Frankie's is my go-to place to watch the Red Sox. They've got tons of TVs and unless there is a major local sporting event that night, they'll generally put on anything you want. I've run into several other Sox fans there at various times, so I think Frankie's is probably the closest thing we have here in Dallas to an unofficial Red Sox bar.
I always try to get there early to snag the comfy leather couch that faces not one but TWO projection screen TVs, which makes me a very happy girl. They have a pretty decent beer menu and their food is better than lots of other sports bars in the area.
Also worth noting is that Frankie's has free pizza on Tuesday nights, TVs outside, and a free parking garage.
