Brian, what if she has a brain tumor and this was all beyond her control? How is this any different than an Amber Alert or an Elderly Alert? When it happened to my husband it was 2 weeks before I could get back around to thanking those who helped us. I was too involved in how to survive having permanently lost my spouse to illness in a matter of days. When I did thank them, I didn't do it via the media. I did it personally and individually. I'm very, very much in touch with this particular reality. Again, the family owes no one an explanation of the cause of this situation. They just don't.

I think the point I'm trying to get you to grasp is that they have no responsiblity to the public. I watched her husband fumble for words last night and I felt his pain. He's looking for the right thing to say to avoid letting "the public" make judgement. That's all anyone wants here anyway. A reason to judge. You think not? Let's try it out: She is diagnosed with a brain tumor. What's the public response? "Oh poor woman. Let's raise money for the family." OR She has a drug addiction. What's the public's response? "I can't believe all those resources were wasted on someone so self destructive."

YOU said, "a simple statement like... "we appreciate the help, we are relieved she is ok, obviously there are alot of lingering questions and WE WANT TO ASSURE THE PUBLIC THAT WHEN WE KNOW MORE WE WILL SHARE THAT WITH YOU, in the meantime thank you".....

It's not about you. It's not about the public. It's not about what you "need to know". It's about human beings. Suffering, hurting, confused human beings.

Yes - my perception is distorted - in the favor of the family. YOU are in the wrong.

Again, having been in this situation, I have nothing but disdain for you both. You have no idea what is going on in the drama of that family's life right now. I can promise you, the confusion, worry, panic, fear and future planning are ALL that are on anyone's mind in that household right now. They are extremely grateful for everyone's help but simply cannot focus oustisde of their own inner reality right now.

I don't know them but I have been where they are. You can't grasp the turmoil unless you have experienced this. YOU JUST CANNOT.

The cause is absolutely no one's business. They owe you NOTHING. If you think otherwise you are very shallow and self centered.

I hope it never happens to you. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to never understand. Let them find peace on their own.

I believe their son said, " My eternal thanks to family, friends, and the God who holds it all." But that's not really gonna do it for YOU is it? What do you want? Cash? Blood? A good story? Something to justify the "hours and manpower"? She's sick. Isn't that enough. "Thank you for finding my sick wife before something terrible happened to her. We were all TERRIFIED and didn't sleep or eat for days!"
But then...it's really all about you, isn't it?

For the record - the public services will be billing the family so maybe you can get some restitution there.
