Same-sex Homecoming bill at University of North Texas left to student vote
I agree civil rights should not and really never been determined by popular vote. Majority votes (based on polls at the time) would have defeated women's right to vote, black right, interracial marriage to name a few.
While I too disagree the popular vote path exemplifies lack of spine from lawmakers, I'm hopeful the younger generation is arguably less encumbered to vote based on the "tradition" of discrimination.

Texas Attorney General tells Rockwall audience he has appealed Dallas judge’s gay divorce ruling
Another spineless politician sucking up to the Texas Conservative Taliban.
So 76% of the state’s voters approved an amendment denying rights of others. Guess what, equal rights has never been decided by popular vote.
In the late 60's, 73% of he population were against interracial marriage. What would a vote then do? How many men in the 50's would allow a woman to vote?
We need to get rid of these spineless douche bags only looking out for their next election.

Deal between Bush Library and condo-owners near SMU in Dallas is now in disarray
Why not just rent space in the back at Borders for the Bush comic books?

Amon Carter Museum presents Views and Visions: Prints of the American West, 1820–1970
I used to go Fort Worth and visit the Amon Carter with my photography group. Too bad the Fort Worth police recent raid and bash at the gay bar has left a sour taste on visiting Ft Worth.

Photos and video: Million Gay March for Equality in Dallas
I agree with JW. A march is one way to express unity and convey a message. Sure, a million gays in suits and ties with grandparents and children in support would be very impactful but hats off to all of us that withstood 100 deg temp to make a statement.
Here are a few pictures taken: http://www.flickr.com/photos/snowboar...

Lesbian/gay church condemns Fort Worth Police raid on newly opened Rainbow Lounge early Sunday
Sorry. I don't buy the Ft worth police explanation.
It tells like a typical COPS episode where Andy Billie-Bob Griffith innocently conducts an inspection and the evil citizens attack.
I see it as typical mob cop behavior just waiting for the right drunken patron to set them off.

Two Dallas gay bars close, two new ones open
I'm not so sure a 'upscale strip bar' is a big market. There is a certain fun about your average dark, raunchy strip bar to have fun at with friends.

Sigel's neon sign in Dallas to go up in Addison
Good riddance. I lived blocks away from this decrepit 50's era sign that was rusted and falling apart.
Maybe Addison will demand at least a good clean before they install it some place others may appreciate it.

UPDATED: Councilman Tennell Atkins defers, Dallas smoking ban still set for April 10
Solution - leave the bar and smoke outside. It works marvelously in other cities.
No delay. I am looking forward to return to the bars once they go smoke free and spend money.

Rowlett residents want to stamp out smoking ban
Pretty sad that a mere 521 smokers need to find each other to overturn the inevitable.
I'm sure this is not unusual for small communities to ping pong endlessly on this. The litigation industry is recession proof indeed.

Dallas makes list of 10 Worst Cities To Raise A Family
I see this ranking as directly associated with other studies pertaining to "most livable" cities. We did not rank high there either.
Hint.... * Few urban parks (note idea to turn Love Field into an urban park was defeated by special interest groups..mention no names) Bicycle and pedestrian friendly? (Nope. Note the Katy Trail stop sign on Knox Henderson - the joggers have the stop sign! Trees? I'm fortunate to live in Highland Park but it's pathetic in general. Public transport. Explain why the biggest airport (area) in the US has no rapid transit to it again? Dallas -Ft Worth high speed train? Why is parking in Downtown Dallas valet or ridiculously expensive or not there? Why does it cost $10 to park near the Nasher for 1 hour?
The one bright spot is the Katy Trail. Yes, I contributed money to light it up - no thanks to the city. I'm critical because I've lived in 3 other urban areas that actually did something about livability. Fort Lauderdale being the last one.

Obama to cut federal funding for Texas' abstinence-only sex education program
Very happy about this. Obama is indeed looking at line items for useless spending such as this.
An abstinence only sex education plan was ridiculous then and it's ridiculous now. It was purely Conservative party pork. This was about as effective as a rice cake only diet plan.

SMU to University Park: "We'll pony up for Bush Library-related lost tax revenue"
Good to hear and an excellent compromise. Is this a one time compensation?
How are we doing about taxing the church? As churches eats up more and more property (like along Preston Rd) how is that lost tax base going to be recovered?

Dallas City Council approves plan to build 700 homes for the homeless
This should only apply if they get a friggn job. This includes sweeping the streets, cleaning medians and watering city trees.
If not, this is insane and the funding should come from the City Council's payroll.

thanks Ryan - what time do you start to play?
