Tuckers' Blues brings blues back to Deep Ellum

Yes, good luck. I'd to see a link to a calendar of upcoming shows to promote on my website. If anyone has one, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Holland K Smith

I believe this is going to be a live CD recording at Pearl on 4th of July. That's what Holland told me last night at Ernie's. So, anyone wanting to be on one of Holland's albums should show up and yell like crazy. :)

This can't be real. A mountain lion at Lake Grapevine? Anyone got another link?

UPDATED: More layoffs at Dallas Morning News; freebie Quick to become weekly

"For a city that lots of people demonize as one where most of its people are fixated on making money, you'd think there would be more interest in reading local business news, right? But the reality is: Nada."

Nothing is more boring than the business section of the newspaper. That's the section that immediately goes in the cat litter box. Plus, most people that find that interesting read the Wall Street Journal and Dallas Business Journal.

How does NeighborsGo.com fit into all of this. Isn't that run by DMN? Is that their attempt to be more like Pegasus?

As for the Cowboys, all you have to do is look at the success of The Ticket and that should explain everything.

    :)

    Go Cowboys!!!

    Mavericks coach Avery Johnson fired

I'm going to miss the Little General. He brought some much needed class to this organization. When he was announced as the new head coach, everyone said that this was the right guy for the job. He was going to start stressing defense. He knew what it took to win a championship. Heck, he was even a candidate for Coach of the Year. What a mess.

Four G's Sports Bar & Grill (Closed)

They used to have a really cool blues jam there a few weeks ago. I would drive all the way there for the fish tacos and some live music on a Friday night. That was sweet. Last I checked though, they canned that idea. The fish tacos were pretty good, but not good enough for the commute without the music. Oh well. I've found a new place in Frisco for fish tacos called Pasados. Mmmm mmm. That's good eatin'.

    A Bowl Full of Blues

Ok, well, I'll give yall the short version while I work on the blog entry. In a nutshell, I was blown away last night. In 1999, I began to make an effort to start getting out again and listening to live music. And during that time, I've focused almost all of my attention on the local blues scene. And although that's only been around 9 years, I've seen some amazing shows. Last night was the best night of blues I've seen in this town. And second place doesn't even come close. I was completely floored.

Now, I must say that I have an emotional stake in what happened last night. I founded and run NorthTexasBlues, a Yahoo Group devoted to blues in our fair metroplex. And I've gotten to know a lot of the people who were on that stage last night. We've complained for years that less and less people are going out to see live blues. And last night, when I purchased my tickets at the gate, the guy told me, "ok, that's it, I'm sold out."

My jaw nearly hit the floor. I had more people coming. I freaked. Luckily, the lady next to him had a roll left and I bougt enough for my friends. I heard later that people were sneaking into the venue just to catch Anson and Bugs.

THEY SOLD OUT!!! I can't believe it. They sold more tickets last night than they did for all of 2007 combined!!!

Many of my friends were on that stage. The Bulldogs opened. I've jammed with them at the Cottage Lounge. Great guys. The blew the doors off. Next was Blue Lisa, another good friend of mine. With her were Rob Donavan and Bob Fisk on guitar. I've jammed with all of them multiple times. And there they were, on stage in front of a couple thousand people. It was an emotional night for me. I felt so happy for those guys. And the crowd was digging every bit of it. Unbelievable.

Well, this isn't getting any shorter. So I'll save the rest for later. The worst part of the night for me was my wife coming down to the stage to find me and looking like she was about to die. She had walking pneumonia but decided to tough it out for me ... for my birthday. I feel like a total jerk today. Both her and my two kids were freezing by the end of the night. The blankets and jackets couldn't keep them warm. I got a pretty good scare there. I got them home and got everyone warmed up. But for a bit of the ride home I thought we were stopping at the hospital. What's the quote? Caution is the better side of valor? Something like that.

The good news is that the antibiotics are doing the trick this morning and everyone is doing well.

Great show Plano. I take back all those things I've said about you. ;)

Was that an amazing show or what? I'd like to add a review. How do I do that? All I see is "Add an Event", "Add A Lost Pet", "Add A Story", "Add A Garage Sale", "Add A Band", "Add A Photo".

I could just put it in a comment here. But then it won't show up under "Latest Reviews" on the front page.

    HELP. :)

One more thing ... Sam Myers died last year. You might want to update the graphic you have on file for Anson and the Rockets. More info here:

Here's a great solo photo of Anson from my buddy Jeff on BluesViews.com:

Per the promoter, you can bring coolers or whatever you want. I'm also working to get specific start times for each artist in case there is someone in particular you don't want to miss.

That doesn't surprise me much. Most of these OMDs have grown so fast. A lot of little details like this got overlooked. We had similar problems over on GarageBand.com.

Welcome to the social (calendar/mixer/news/disease, etc.)

I think the friend vs. friendship idea is genious. That's one of the things I truly hate about MySpace ... approving friends. It's like a chain around my neck that makes me feel obligated to login every now and then and do the approval thing. It's one thing if the person is really a friend. Then logging in to approve would be worthwhile because you'd be reconnecting with someone you used to know. But if you just want to checkout my favorite restaurants and read my blog, go for it. No need for all that nonsense.

Will you guys be adding a feature that will allow us to drive traffic to the site? Something like a Facebook app or the ReverbNation widgets?

Keep up the good work. I'll be more active out here from now on since it appears the site is improving.

    Thanks,

    Frisco housing market annoyingly strong

I'm selling a house in Frisco. We've been on the market for a couple months now. No offers. I'm not sure if the author of this article checked any actual facts, but from where I sit, it's clear that house prices are coming down. We're lowering our price today by $10,000, putting our price 10K below the appraised value. And if you track the home prices on the major realtor sites for our neighborhood, all our neighbors are doing the same.

I think a lot of this rhetoric is just Frisco bashing.

Pat Boyack / Red Young / Brian Ferguson

Wish I could be there tonight guys. This will be a great show. Is there a place in town anywhere that you can hear B3 like this tonight? I don't think so. Plus, you add Pat Boyack, the guitar player for Marcia Ball and Brian Ferguson on drums and you know the night is going to get funky. Mmmm mmmm mmmm, another night of great music in Dallas, TX.
