Take a tour of the latest Dallas hipster spots
Great list and I'm glad you've found ways to get your Austin on. We're happy you are here! May I add to your list? 1. Nature. There's much more here than you may think. Buckeye Trail in the Trinity Forest, Dogwood Canyon in Cedar Hill and Cedar Ridge in Dallas offer excellent trails. Lately I've been hiking Spring Creek Forest, lovely 100 plus year old towering oaks. 2. Renewed Casa Linda: Goodfriend Beer and Good To Go, man those are fun places. Very Austin Vibe 3. Great local bars: Meridian Room is one of the friendliest atmospheric bars there is anywhere. 3. Local Theater. Kitchen Dog, Undermain. Revitalized local company at DTC. 4. Local Music. Kessler. Going Friday to hear Seryn and Doug Burr and Austin's David Ramirez. 5. Craft Beers? Yeah we got em. Deep Ellum Brewing, and Peticolas and Lakewood not far behind. 6. Artists: Art Con! La Reunion! Barry Whistler, and developing Design District.

Biggest stories on the dining front in Dallas-Fort Worth in 2011
craft beer is a big story. Peticolas starts brewing this week. Goodfriend is doing an outstanding job of selecting rotators.

Rawlins, is a star auctioneer. Really, one of the coolest events I've ever participated in and this year was the best. Great art, I heard many people comment on this was the best art. Loved the addition for the food trucks. It becomes better organized every year as well. I saw so many really great folks from our creative class in Dallas.

Thanks Dallas, way to kill one of the great developing things going on in this city.
Surely this was less risky than the Occupy Dallas event!

dale and mark. Great spot and ya'll are cool folks. Mark, your idea is a grand one. I point out the enthusiasm of Lochwood for the new Goodfriends and Cassell's restaurant. Maybe you should be looking at Casa View! You'd be mighty welcome in that part of town.

Zagat's barbecue list bypasses Texas and gets it all wrong
thanks LuLi, I lke using open table. I really like using email for reservations. I just don't like the phone. I often get a call to confirm from the restaurant. I then refer to Trip Advisor and Yelp, especially when visiting a city. Not all the reviews are helpful, but usually I get a pretty good overview.

So, Teresa, how about rating ratings: What do you think of: Tripadvisor vs Urban Spoon vs. Yelp vs Open Table as far as amateur reviewers.

One of the several reasons I read anything you write. Brilliantly funny and accurate. I love the fact that none of the best barbecue in the nation is in Austin, Kansas City, St. Louis or Memphis
Nothing says good cue, better than...boston?

Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House hosted patio party on Sunday
Just saw this Teresa, in fact I did go. It was a great time. There was all the free beer you could drink. Dennis from Franconia, tapped a nice wooden keg. The place was packed, and energetic. Lots of neighbors there.

UPDATED: Memorial service for Spector 45 band member Adam Carter is Wednesday
I met Adam when he was with the Felons. He always gave me a big hug every time I saw him. I've run into him at Meridian Room several times this year. He was always funny, friendly and engaging. I'm so sorry for his family, and for his friends. You measure a man to some extent by the quality of his friends, and Adam had a lot of good friends.
LIke most, I'm very very sad, and pissed off at the same time.

Creepy rendering of Big Tex shows he’s almost ready for the State Fair
Glad I'm not the only one who found this creepy.... BUT... I do realize that is a very 2-dimensional view of what will be the new Big Tex.
