Whole Foods Market takes first pre-emptive strike at Trader Joe's
production9342, i've noticed that Central Market does the same thing. i'll find an Italian cracker i like, and the next time i go, it's gone, only to be replaced by a ridiculously inferior CM clone.
Kirby, that's a great find, wish i had noticed it myself! sure do wish these companies would offer such bargains on their own without having to be prodded into it by an outsider

razorphreak, they're not direct competitors. TJ's doesn't focus on produce. but there's no question that Whole Foods is trying to compete with TJ's by selling an identically packaged coffee at an unprecedented new low price.

Trader Joe's second Dallas location will be at US 75 and Walnut Hill
Egorsti, that's funny
James Scott, that corner of Walnut Hill & 75 was razed years ago for a development and then sat there vacant. it has way more going for it than LH: it's in a prime position right off 75 and, while i think they stretch the truth quite a bit to call it Preston Hollow anything, it IS located next to some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Dallas
Lake Highlands always seems very confident about itself but for anyone who doesn't live there, driving there to go to a store would be a pain in the ass. and the community doesn't seem to ably support the limping businesses that do open there. present company excluded, of course

Shawn Parikh, former Peg News staffer, on the red carpet
Jason Rice, Cougar Town -- the series in which Shawn has been appearing intermittently -- has been picked up for another season so Shawn will show up in a couple more episodes. i still haven't watched it yet, i am never at the TV when it's on

miaskiracer, we try to keep a civilized tone at Pegasus News. It's fine to have different opinions but Jason Rice is a regular member of the community here. He's always been respectful towards others, and I think he deserves the same.

Taco Bueno of Farmers Branch looking to find a buyer
BrandonR, it was more that I was trying to find an interesting way to share the news that Taco Bueno was for sale. Reuters broke that story and I didn't want to just copy them.
I agree with you that Taco Bell is at the bottom of the barrel. those Doritos tacos look gross.

well lakewoodhobo, guess i'll see you there some saturday coming soon, and i think you're right that an Arts District store would more easily survive.
i think i feel protective towards 1700 Pacific because their efforts seem plucky, given their lack of visibility from the street, the lack of parking, residents' occasional lack of support, etcetc

lakewoodhobo, the starbucks at 1700 pacific has been staying open later and on saturdays, and that's not far from the arts district. you could certainly visit them during those hours. any time i go by during that time - and i try to, to let them know that i appreciate their effort - there are very few customers

food truck park - now that sounds like Bishop Arts
thanks for reminder about Biscuits Cafe. i'm also a fan of Napoli Cafe on Main St. right across from Main St. Baking (which, like Eatzi's, has excellent bread) - i like Napoli's gelato and espresso drinks

Colby Walton, i saw the Rail station - pretty cool! one thing i always liked about Grapevine was how many independently-owned restaurants and few chains it had. i suppose it's "progress" to see chains like Bob's move in but i'm glad Grapevine had its own scene before any of that came along

Nancy Nichols, possibly yes, although i'm thinking that Grapevine would have to get in line to be The Next Bishop Arts after: the Design District, the Cedars district, the area in East Dallas near Good 2 Go Tacos, Old East Plano, West Dallas, and Rockwall

i attended a service last year of a fundamentalist Christian group in the mid-cities that included a prolonged presentation about sex trafficking. they dragged up a couple of teenage congregation members to talk about how horrific sex trafficking is and shed some frightened tears, then passed the bucket for a special "let's fight sex trafficking!" collection (separate from the other two collections that were gathered during the service). who doesn't hate sex trafficking - and here's my $5 to fight it. totally bizarre

dnrmail, i was remiss by not mentioning that there were also many trays of fresh fruit, also provided by Empire Baking Co. who offered a variety of breads, some of which were whole grain, some of which had fruits and nuts, and all of which were excellent. in my opinion, Empire Baking makes the best bread in Dallas-Fort Worth. i did not get from Bittman's talk that he vilified all bread - he was protesting overly processed foods like hamburger buns and white flour. at Temple Emanu-El's talks, they are generous to provide food and snacks at the reception, but they're not in the restaurant business. the folks from Empire went out of their way to make sure that this event had a better-than-average spread.
