Five Dallas restaurants that should serve tacos on a regular basis
i wish more taquerias sold neapolitan-style pizza and watercress salad. but they always seem to stick to tacos. i find that limiting

James Scott, i didn't actually peruse their menu as thoroughly as i should have.
do you have any theories on why vegan places in DFW don't sell alcohol?

Ten Bells Tavern in Bishop Arts opens with "butty" on the menu
Michael4497, that's good to hear, although it should be stated that we're not snobby about old French fries. sortof like day-old pizza -- has a certain charm. but the butty in that photo on Ten Bells' Facebook page (which we "borrowed") looks pretty dang fresh

amdorr, damn yankee was objecting to a comment that expressed racist sentiments. it has since been deleted.

Movie review: Savages
well i shouldn't be singling out Salma - i merely question the casting of a 5-foot-tall female as a drug cartel lord. i could see sigourney weaver or angelina jolie or even rosie o'donnell - people who seem like they could defend themselves, which one presumes you would have to do if you were a drug cartel lord. i could take Salma Hayek with one hand tied behind my back

the acting may have been good but the casting of Salma Hayek as a drug cartel chief makes my head hurt almost as much as watching the trailers for this thing. really, they were painful

not sure if you saw the Associated Press story yesterday that said there is a GLUT of lobsters in New England right now, resulting in unusually low prices

SitizenKane, were you not around when the Phil Romano-owned We Oui opened in the Crescent Building with its signature dish, the deep-fried lobster? or the Phil Romano-owned Lobster Ranch, in Preston Center, which had many fried lobster items on the menu? then again, both of those ARE closed. (you could have a point.) but lobster fritters are a pretty common dish and there's a restaurant in chicago called Coco's that's known for its fried lobster
or do you just have an aversion to frying lobster

Pegasus Favorite Five: Freshest margaritas in Dallas
do you have any favorites? one reason i skipped the 'traditional margarita' idea is because so many people have done it already and they all seem to be the same -- mariano's, mi cocina, gloria's, javier's

Eliot that sounds DELICIOUS
i suppose you could call any cocktail fresh if it's been freshly made for you. for me, 'fresh' implies fresh ingredients. limes count! but not all margaritas use fresh limes - some use bottled juice, some don't use limes at all. however, if i were going to do a Favorite Five on traditional margaritas, i wouldn't describe those as 'fresh'. maybe we should call THAT one "phresh". hee

Eliot, you're so smart! i almost titled it fruitiest. but i was afraid that would be a turn-off to MALE readers. haha
i wouldn't call a traditional margarita fresh. but perhaps we shall add "traditional" margaritas to our list of future Favorite Five candidates?

RobertB, you are a prince and a hero. i haven't been to any of their events, and when i first started talking to Elizabeth, i was thinking, oh jeez another person looking for funding. but she's so passionate about what she's doing and it seems clear that learning to grow food has endless benefits effect on the community. wish i had a plot near my place

i kindof don't mind soggy waffle cones. it looks like the "Original" has a milk chocolate coating and the "Chocolate" has a dark chocolate coating?
they seem like a taco-shaped version of the Nestle Drumstick, aka the Nutty Buddy

UPDATEDx2: Missing Plano mom Janice Klein found at DFW Airport
SitizenKane, i agree with you. it's like the boy who cried wolf. glad she turned out not to be harmed, but after having galvanized a large group of people to do a search, it seems peculiar at best to end with "oh well, we might never know what really happened, sorry, thanks a bunch"
