Seeking vegan options at Celebration restaurant in Dallas
I eat lunch at Celebration a few times a week. Although I'm far from a vegan, I almost always order the veggie lunch which for me consists of salad, beans and spinach or whatever is fresh that day. I usually always order Wednesday's, sausage green bean soup. Or. sometimes the fried catfish.

Landmark strip on Mockingbird Lane in Dallas razed for new bank
A chicken in every pot and a bank on every corner. And we wonder what's become of the USA we all knew and grew up with.

Chili's Grill & Bar
Just what the world needs. Another (crappy) Chili's. Can any of you with more than a high school education honestly say they serve good food? At least MacDonald's serves breakfast.

Taquerias El Fuego
The hours listing here is incorrect. They are closed Sundays and, they are now (thanks to the positive reviews at DMN) open at dinner time.

Travis, bite your tongue! Let's not even think such terrible thoughts.

Wild About Harry's
"Wild About Harry's" is a gem in Dallas unlike any other place I can think of. Very unlike Dallas. And Harry himself is, one class act!

Cafe Rembrandt, unique Dutch restaurant in Dallas' West End, closing down
I didn't even know this place existed. I'm sorry about that. I hope they open again in a space that's more on "the beaten path". I would love to eat there if they do.

The Brad investigates deli food at Zinsky's on Preston-Royal in Dallas
As I've posted in other blogs, Zinsky's is good. Not, NYC good but, good enough for Dallas. Although my personal favorite is still Deli-News, I loved the matzoh ball soup. Despite the fact that one of my matzoh balls was raw and hard in the center. The chicken soup on it's own would make any Jewish bubbie (grandmother) jealous. The pastrami sandwich was, just OK. Not bad but, again, good enough for Dallas. What I didn't like about the sandwich was the bread. It was soggy wet. From what? I didn't order a "French dip"! The welcoming service was wonderful. Helpful and friendly but not, patronizing. I'll return for the matzoh ball soup. Hopefully, this time the matzoh balls will be cooked through.

Ed's is gone for almost 6 months at least. Replaced by "Roasters" out of Miami. I've heard it's very much overpriced and not really that good.

Owners of Simon David in Dallas want to demolish and expand grocery store
After arriving in Dallas in 1963, I was told, Simon David was, THE supreme grocery store here. I think things changed a bit after it was sold to Tom Thumb. And now of course, it's owned by Randall's. Which is a division of Safeway.

Amy's Raw Chocolates bringing healthy chocolate to Dallas
Thanks, Scott. I've had a few different DeVries chocolates and have to say, they're not among my favorites. I think his chocolate is an "acquired" taste. A more, "adult" taste if you will.

Scott@ Please tell the name of the chocolate product your eating that contains only, "cacao beans and sugar". I would like to get some for myself. Thank you.

UPDATED: Voila Bakery in Allen, home of the best croissants in town, closed
Goddamn, greedy landlords! As a retailer in Dallas, I can sympathize with them. And as stated, the summer vacations don't help the situation.

Restaurant review: Manow Asian Brasserie in Dallas
I'm familiar with this neighborhood and, the Thai restaurant that was the tenant prior to Manow. Personally, after perusing their menu, I think their pricing is going to make it difficult for them to succeed in this strip that's anchored by a KFC and includes a check cashing store and other business's that do not give this strip an atmosphere conducive to a "high profile" Asian restaurant.

Going deep dish into Dallas' Chicago-style pizza scene
One, Pavel Lishin is a total shmuck! Two, it's nice to be able to have a CHOICE of pizza in the Dallas area. Personally, I prefer thin. But I wouldn't turn away a nice piece of Chicago thick. I've been to Chicago many times and I never had a bad meal there.

Travel magazine gives Fort Worth-based American Airlines "Best Sparkling Wine" award
I've enjoyed some very good wines on AA in business class to Europe. But, at 35,000 feet, everything pretty much tastes the same after one drink, anyway.

Big deal! Just another boring, unexciting amateur whose going to cook very average mediocre food for probably, just one season. All I can say is, ho hum!

Frozen yogurt staging takeover of Dallas
Natsumi gelato and frozen yogurt on Henderson Ave. is not a franchise. It's their only store (for now) and arguably the best in town. Their dairy products are all organic and their gelato's and frozen yogurts have the deepest flavors of anything around. Plus, they sell some exotic Asian flavors you won't see elsewhere. They even have, Durian. Not bad, either! Although my personal favorites are a combo of sea salt caramel and coconut. Their coconut kills all the other places.

Restaurant Review: Sushi World in downtown Dallas
I've driven by this corner sushi bar a number of times during the evening and it always seems to be empty. I'd say to myself, poor guy's, their never going to make it at that location. Hopefully, they do a brisk lunch business because from the looks of it, their not bound to be there long. Hope I'm wrong.
