Cool River Cafe
When I first moved to Texas and told people I worked in Las Colinas I was immediately asked if I had been to Cool River. Everyone seemed to have had a smile on their face when they asked. I finally found out why. Cool River is a delicious and respectable place to go to lunch. As a matter of fact it is the classiest stand alone place in and around Las Colinas to have lunch. Ah, but then there's the evening crowd. (And this is what made everyone smile.) A trip to the bar during happy hour is well worth it. There's plenty to see. If you get their in time your stool or your table will become prime real estate when the music starts up. A good time can be had by just sitting back and watching the crowd. I definitely recommend a visit at least once. But don't forget to valet park your jag/hummer/benz out front.

The Capital Grille
This spot is a favorite of mine from DC. Stop in and grab a drink at happy hour- their Pineapple Vodka is not to be missed. I am a fan of their entrees and like the fact that they're open on Sunday night.

Absinthe Lounge
I had this pegged as a bigger venue, but it is much more of a neighborhood spot. Don't get me wrong it is a tucked away little treasure. The staff is cool and the place is comfortable. Grab a drink and settle in to listen to the live music. It is definitely worth a visit.

Cowboys Red River
Wow. That about sums up my first visit to Cowboy's Red River. Perhaps because it was my first visit to a real Texas Dance Hall or because I had never before seen a circular dancefloor (I'm from California, we get blamed for line dancing), but Red River struck me speechless. Don't get me wrong I had a great time, but this is definitely someplace you go with a big group to laugh and have fun. Ride the mechnical bull if you're up to it, but don't let your friends hear that they can speed it up for extra tips. This place is definitely worth a second trip even it is to bring first time visitors to Texas!

Fox Sports Grill (Closed)
I was unfortunately looking forward to Fox Sports Grill opening in Texas. I had frequented the Fox Sports Grill in Irvine, California and was assuming that the same upscale sports bar would be opening here. I was mistaken. Gone was the single big screen in the center of the bar, gone was the separate dinning area so you could experience the "sports bar" and the "sports grill" separately if you chose, and gone were the upscale clientele enjoying a drink and a game from the many amazing vantage points.
Not only were we unable to watch one game clearly as the eye lines for the TVs were so poorly laid out, but our server could hardly give us the time of day. I could forgive bad service if I was distracted by an amazing close game (of which several were on at the time I visited Fox Sports), but I was unable to see any of the TVs. Amazingly there are no good seats to see a game here. Needless to say the Fox Sport's Grill in Plano is a big disappointment.

Cosmo Rouge (Closed)
Cosmo Rouge was a delightful find. The chic atmosphere was balanced by a friendly and polite wait staff. They didn't bat an eye when I threatened to do bodily harm if they took away my sweet potato fries before I ate them all. The fries are a must have here. Our meal was delicious and reasonably priced. I highly recommend a visit. Next time I plan to go back and stay for a drink or too after dinner in the ultra modern lounge.
