The show wasn't meant to be like real life; it's a parody, and that's the whole reason it's funny. No, people don't stand up in church and announce that they're thankful to another church member for their paychecks at a cheesy, Hooters-esque restaurant. No, you wouldn't attempt to dry your pants out the window of your car if you spilled coffee on your lap. Of course not. That's why the show is funny. I'm a Christian (admittedly, though, not from the South) and I LOVED the show. Annie Potts and Kristin Chenoweth were particularly amazing and over the top -- and delightfully so.
