Sorry, Russ, we wouldn't know. Professional courtesy prevents us from eating shark. We suggest calling Dallas Fish Market.

Restaurant Review: Vern's Kitchen in Deep Ellum Dallas
chas, we're always open for debate as long as we're right :) so, whose CFS do you think bests Vern's? sorry to hear about getting ill - the only thing we got from Vern's was a case of the afternoon food naps and we've been back a few times.

Grimaldi's Pizzeria opens in Allen at Watters Creek center
Chris: Relatives of Pasty Grimaldi went their separate ways a while back and started their own restaurants, so the pies are related, literally.

William: Pizza's a very touchy subject everywhere. Hopefully, at least you'd agree that pizza is like a day off - even when it's bad, it's good. Any particular places that you'd recommend over Grimaldi's (Olivella's comes to mind), or are you just in this argument for the snark?

Grimaldi's is a fave of the LR's. The West Vil. location may even be better than any Patsy's in Manhattan (incl. service), and that's saying something.

Branch of faux low-fat chain coming to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport
Cosi rocks. The LR's used to frequent Cosis in The City back in the day. As long as its been around NY & New England, it's surprising it hasn't made its way down here yet, seeing as how we're just now suffering through the seven-year-old, fading fancy salad craze ("It's a salad bar where I order someone to put it together for me! Wow!").

Wait a minute... so that's why we needed all those napkins!
Actually, we don't think they were homemade, but they were warm and tasty.

A One Act Play, by The Law Reviewers: Last Friday Night at Kirk Brewer's House
[A long time ago, in a household not far enough away...]
Kirk's Mom: "Kirk, sweetie! Come up from the basement! Billusa99 is here for dinner!"
Kirk Brewer: "Heyyyyyy, don't call me 'sweetie' in front of the foodie crowd! How many times do I have to tell you that? I'll be up in a minute; I just have to finish this post on Internetfoodietoughguys.com... Heh, take THAT, Bill Addison. Or should I say, Bill SADison?"
[later...]
Billusa99: "Mmmm, Mrs. Brewer, the mashed potatoes are serviceable, but the turkey dressing has hints of gooseberry-almond flanges, which, as you should know, have no place in a harissa xylene based dressing. You said there would be wine at this dinner, and all I see is a 1999 Caberlot blend. And where are the tomato-infused harlots with the mushroom-pancetta base I was promised?"
Kirk's Mom: "Uh, thanks, Billusa99...?"
Kirk Brewer: "Yeah, and the food sucks, too!"
Billusa99: "Hee - good one, Kirkster! This reminds me of the time we went to Star Canyon and you planted the waterbug in the foam dressing of the escargot souffle so we could get the bill comp'ed. Good times."
Kirk Brewer: "Good times, indeed! Hey, after dinner, let's go to the Inwood Lounge and glare at the people on dates."
Billusa99: "Deal. Thanks for the awful mess you call 'dinner,' Mrs. Brewer. What is this, a Whataburger? Pfft."
aaaaaaaaand, scene!

Hey there, Bill, a Cuban colleague informed us that guacamole is not strictly a Cuban dish so whaddaya gonna do?
Anyway, we just figured out what the Bill is short for -- you're noted character actor William Atherton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0040472/bio), aren't you? We're huge fans of your work!

Dining out in Dallas: Best restaurant reviews of 2007
Here's some more horn-tooting favorites of ours from the past year (cause we loves us some us):
Alo: But Alo’s cool vibe was just that, without too much pretentiousness. The crowd was a good mix of the 325i and the 750 set, and some of the patrons even appeared to have over 80,000 miles on them.
Sushi Japan: Let’s see, there was salmon, shrimp, two kinds of tuna, mackerel and another kind of fish we’ll call Fred. ... The sushi roll lunch special was lighter than the box combo in that it does not include the box’s salad, watermelon or Fred.
Mama's Daughters' Diner: Also, the gentleman who shows you to your table resembles a short version of the drug kingpin’s henchman from "Clear and Present Danger," popular Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida (a/k/a the Latin Phil Hartman). We think you need to know these things....
Luqa: Pretensions and high price points are a lot to live up to for a power lunch and, unfortunately, Luqa left us feeling as disappointed as Charlton Heston when he realized that he was he standing next to the Statute of Liberty on the middle of a deserted beach (but not as upset as when he realized that Soylent Green is people). So, on our filthy human five gavel rating scale, where five gavels is the original Planet of the Apes, and one gavel is that time one of us wandered into the closed-for-renovation gorilla habitat at the zoo, we give Luqa two gavels, or Ed, starring Matt LeBlanc as Jack "Deuce" Cooper, a hayseed baseball pitcher who befriends a chimpanzee and learns the meaning of life.
But wait, there's more! Act now and you can also get our complete recordings of the comedic stylings of Rich Little and our very special 'Law Reviewers' Delicious Dreck & Duck Gumbo' recipe. Supplies are limited so order now!

FatCap: Thanks, FatCap. Did you mean "mob OF lawyers?" Although we'd never take sides against The Family.
Donna: Excellent idea! TG can judge. Here's our opening argument: [assuming Seinfeldian voice] S o, what is the deal with risotto? I mean it's a rice, but it's served like it's a pasta. Somebody tell me, cause I wanna know?

Thanks luniz and all others who've pitched in with their sushi suggestions! For our part, we recommend that you take our reviews with salt and then add plenty of tequila and lime. They may not make any more sense, but you'll enjoy yourself a lot more. [Cue NBC's "The More you Know" theme]

Kirk,
We have a bet. Are you actually:
a) Principal Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller's Day Off,
b) Dana Carvey's grumpy old man character from SNL, or
c) Old Man Withers, the owner of the haunted amusement park?
Let's pull that mask off and see who you REALLY are!
